President Donald Trump on Friday delivered an infrastructure speech in which he displayed what he said was a $29 million, 70-pound environmental report that state officials paid for to get an 18-mile roadway approved, highlighting the hurdles and paperwork that builders face to start major projects.
Trump spoke at the Department of Transportation to conclude a weeklong promotion for his $1 trillion infrastructure plan. The president argued that Americans face bureaucratic challenges and burdensome regulations to get projects approved, arguing for a simpler, streamlined process.
To illustrate his point, Trump said he met with state officials responsible for managing infrastructure construction before his speech. One official from Maryland told him about the work that was required to approve the building of a road just 18 miles long.
"They spent $29 million for an environmental report weighing 70 pounds and costing $24,000 per page," Trump said.
"And I said, do me a favor, I'm going to make a speech in a little while. Do you mind if I take that and show it?" he said. "So I'm going to show it."

GO TRUMP GO!!
“So they spent millions and millions of dollarswhen I said how long has this short roadway been talked about, the gentleman said, Well, if you say 20 years, you’re safe,’” Trump said.
The Washington Free Bacon?
That’s a publication I can really get behind!
Leftards have been wrecking our country for a couple of generations now.
President Trump is turning the ship as quickly as he can, with no help from the RINO CINO party.
Paraphrasing Franklin, $29 million saved is $29 million earned.
Bill those state officials and only the voters who voted for them!
Almost $2 million per mile for just the paperwork on the ‘environment’ which is nothing but wild guess I am sure.
There’s money to be made in filling out government paperwork, I guess.
THIS is what I’ve been waiting for him to get around to!
Ridiculously redundant government regulations lead to jobs for ridiculously redundant government regulators, who become unelected tyrants ruling over their “serfs.”
And there are millions of them for whom pushing a couple of papers and answering a couple of phone calls is a tough day. A colossal waste of the taxpayers’ dollars.
There are plenty of swamps to be drained, without a costly, years-long environmental assessment, all over the country.
It is getting ridiculous. 25 years ago you could submit 5 or 6 pages of blueprints to build a 5000 sq ft home here in commiefornia. My wife just drew one that was close to that and it was 90 pages.
It took 5 years, start to finish, for Niagara falls hydro dam to go live in 1895, with construction starting in 1892.
Today, it takes over 20 years to build 18 miles of new road.
Bill Kristol is the father in law of the guy who runs it.
“They spent $29 million for an environmental report weighing 70 pounds and costing $24,000 per page,” Trump said.
...
That money goes in somebody’s politically connected pocket.
“It is getting ridiculous. 25 years ago you could submit 5 or 6 pages of blueprints to build a 5000 sq ft home here in commiefornia. My wife just drew one that was close to that and it was 90 pages.”
This the kind of thing that a private enterprise manages closely. Just enough paperwork to help be profitable. Too much paperwork and the business will collapse.
The problem is the government. Without any sense or care of how it affects people or businesses, they just add more and more regulations until the country collapses.
The administrative state out of control.
Trump, being a businessman, understands this problem. Politician snakes don’t get it. Like Jebbie Bush during a debate when asked about people having difficult times, and his response was “Well, duh, maybe people will just have to work harder.”
That is not correct.

I worked on a remodel of an old building that was aYMCA.the original plans from 1945+\- were 10 sheets. Our addition alone was 180 sheets. I ran ammonia vapor blueprints for 2 weeks straight just to get the review submittal ready. It’s all about liability. If you don’t spec out every last detail then it is your fault when something goes wrong. Something always goes wrong.
The Regulations for just this Global Warming BS are UN-believable... seriously bizarre.
The requirements, delays, reports and special products required to build a simple Shop Building will blow your mind.
It now takes 3 different Engineers (and One better be Connected) to get a freaking Building Permit.
It Costs $ for all involved except the IDIOTS that control the Permits and Enforce the New Regulations.
I actually did the Math on a Project and they were claiming this % of Energy Savings and this % of Carbon not released into the atmosphere ... they said it should be a Selling Point all of the Energy Saved ... (the payback to breakeven was just less than 160 years at current prices)... It is that small a % and that was using their #’s
Worst part is that it is the State of Texas that BOUGHT this BAD SCIENCE and to get it Un-Done will take Years
Go Trump!
