WEST LONG BRANCH -- Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, who has spent the last eight years as Gov. Chris Christie's second-in-command and now vows to slash the state's notoriously high property taxes, defeated four opponents Tuesday to secure the Republican nomination to succeed Christie as New Jersey's governor.
The Associated Press called it for Guadagno about an hour and 20 minutes after the polls closed.
Now, Guadagno, a 58-year-old Monmouth Beach resident, will battle former U.S. ambassador to Germany Phil Murphy in the Nov. 7 general election. Murphy bested five rivals to emerge the winner of Tuesday's Democratic primary.

Duffy already passed.
And Walker is running for a third term (it’s not like he’s just retiring like Jim Edgar).
Perhaps Kleefisch can run against the dyke, who besides Zell Miller (in a State where the LT Gov was boss of the State Senate) would want to be a LT Governor for so long?
Kim CAN be a dude’s name also. Example, actor Kim Coates.
Probably more common in the South where Lindsays and Ashleys are just as likely to be dudes.
“Kim CAN be a dudes name also. Example, actor Kim Coates.”
Or the legendary hacker Kim Internet, or whatever his name is.
Kim G will be a better governor than Phil M.
So NJ voters have two choices: voters can take the slow road or the expressway to Heck? Lovely.
Kim Philby.
[So NJ voters have two choices: voters can take the slow road or the expressway to Heck? Lovely.]
As a lifelong NJ resident, I am taking Option 3:
Voting with moving boxes and a U-Haul and getting out of this crap-hole state before its too late!!
[Kim G will be a better governor than Phil M.]
Of course she would be! But NJ voters don’t vote on “better”. They either vote liberal in droves, or Reupublican if they bother to get to the polls.
I can relate. We’re escaping from NYS ASAP. Will you get bit in the behind by the infamous NJ “exit tax”?
Might be in transition. You never know anymore.

She is so NOT a looker. And she has ZERO chance. She’s got Christie taint all over her and just like Bush got us Obama, Christie will give us Murphy.
There were double the DEM votes cast in the Primary yesterday compared to GOP votes. We’re getting Murphy.
It’s not strange. It’s pathetic - presuming they’re “informed” NJ voters.
It’s not really an “Exit Tax” in the sense of it being an additional tax. It’s a pre-payment of state income tax on the gross proceeds of selling your home. The reason they levy it at the time of sale is to prevent people from leaving the state and never paying the tax on the gain if they’re not required to file a NJ return the following year.
It’s confusing, but it’s just a timing issue essentially.
In his case it’s a surname.
A NJ Republican politician, male or, in Guadano’s case, female and with very few exceptions is born a RINO by any standard.
