WEST LONG BRANCH -- Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, who has spent the last eight years as Gov. Chris Christie's second-in-command and now vows to slash the state's notoriously high property taxes, defeated four opponents Tuesday to secure the Republican nomination to succeed Christie as New Jersey's governor.

The Associated Press called it for Guadagno about an hour and 20 minutes after the polls closed.

Now, Guadagno, a 58-year-old Monmouth Beach resident, will battle former U.S. ambassador to Germany Phil Murphy in the Nov. 7 general election. Murphy bested five rivals to emerge the winner of Tuesday's Democratic primary.

I’m centrist on some issues, but I am not a RINO.

Christie picked him as a running mate 8 years ago, and it is N.J., so I’d bet money that you’re right.

Yes, Ms. Guadagno is a RINO by FR standards. She believes in climate change.

Joe Piscopo should’ve run. Too bad he can’t run as an Independent to stop these two leftist asshats.

I think SHE’S got a chance! A looker! That what count’s. Just look at Barbara Mikulski and the Black broad with the James Brown haircut.

49% in a 5 candidate field. State Rep. Jack Ciattarelli in 2nd with 27%. I don’t know which was better but this result was expected.

She will likely lose badly to the Corzine clone the rats nominated, but the far-left hates him so maybe the Green can gain some traction and split the vote.

That James Brown haircut on Muddy Waters is a wig. Kimmie looks like she’s had as much work done as Dr. Phil’s frozen-faced, mumble-mouthed wife.

The Wisconsin Lt. Gov. is nice looking too. If only Scott Walker could run against Baldwin. Cabinet post is he loses. He’ll never be President despite his accomplishments as Gov. Floyd Turbo’s twin.

The WI Lt Guv is at least a Conservative. Walker should run against Baldwin if Rep. Sean Duffy doesn’t. It’s really galling we end up having all these Republican Governors who refuse to run for Senator.

Christie probably doesn’t want to run against Menendez in 2018.

Fat boy’s approvals are in the toilet. They need to get someone else to run (presuming Menendez isn’t forced out because of corruption or having sex with little girls, which apparently neither is an offense when one is a Democrat officeholder). Of course, Tubby effectively gifted Cory Booker the other Senate seat. What a pal.

Up North we take whatever R we can get.

Rudy wasn’t a conservative but he saved NYC.

Strange that several posters here seem to think a candidate with the first name “Kim” is a dude. New Jersey ain’t Korea.
