Actions have consequences. For years, the pushing, poking and taunting by the bullies were ignored, with the expectation that non-response would result in abatement of the bad behavior. Or at least, that is the way it is explained in some psychology texts.

Well, that school of thought about psychology is just so much horse puckey. A good fetch upside the head is both MUCH more satisfactory, and results in at least getting the attention of the bullies.
