Charles Manson was humanifatrian of the year in 1972... survey finds.
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 4 A teenage Manson family member, who Wednesday told the story of the miracle-worker Charles Manson, today told of the acid-dropper Linda Kasabian, the star prosecution witness whose testimony was responsible for the conviction of the hippie leader and three of his girl followers.
The girl is the second Manson disciple to take the stand in Los Angeles Superior Court in the penalty phase of the Tate-LaBianca murder trial in an attempt to save her former leader from death in San Quentins gas chamber.
Nineteen-year-old Brenda McCann, whose real name is Nancy Pittman, told a story which was diametrically opposite to the one told by Mrs. Kasabian during her 18 days on the stand. Mrs. Kasabian claimed she did not use drugs while at the Spahn Ranch and did not tell police of the murders because of concern for her child.
Miss McCann claimed that Mrs. Kasabian not only took LSD every day but chased after Charles Tex Watson, also charged with the murders, and neglected her daughter, Tanya.
When Linda first came to the ranch she wanted to hide so we went to live in a cave above the ranch with her baby. She took LSD every day for the week we were there. She didnt do much else. Shed lie around and look at birds.
Miss McCann said Mrs. Kasabian brought the LSD with her to the ranch along with $5,000 she had stolen from her husband.
She was mad at her husband for some reason and she asked if wed hide her because he would come looking for her. She talked a lot, never about anything that made sense. She just talked insane jabber.
Miss McCann said the woman brought her baby with her to the ranch but didnt want to have anything to do with it. Miss McCann added that she ended up having to take care of it.
She left the cave for a couple of days to get baby food and diapers but she didnt come back. After a couple of days I went down to look for her. She said shed forgotten. Mrs. Kasabian spent a lot of time with Watson, the girl testified, and followed him around everywhere.
She was with him all the time. Theyd go everywhere together. They were hugging all the time, taking acid trips together and going horseback riding together.
Mansons mystical powers how he breathed life back into a dead bird, talked to animals and read peoples minds held courtroom spectators spellbound Wednesday as Miss McCann testified.
The girl, a long-haired high school dropout, admitted she has been living on the corner in downtown Los Angeles since the trial of Manson and his three girls began. She followed Lynette Fromme to the stand to tell of her love for Manson.
She also told the obviously interested jury of five women and seven men who only last week found the four clan members guilty of seven counts of first degree murder, of the hippie leaders powers.
I never considered Charlie as God, she said with a smile, until the police came saying Wheres Jesus Christ, we want to crucify him.
She was forcibly taken from the witness stand during her testimony when she refused to confine her answers to the questions.
Although she resumed after a short conference with defense attorneys, she continued to give detailed answers to questions.
Asked about any miracles that Manson may have performed, the girl thought for several minutes then answered:
I remember once we were in the desert and this bird had died. He picked it up in his hand and breathed on it and the bird just up and flew away.
And, other animals coyotes, burros, mountain goats theyd just come around when Charlie was there. They wouldnt come if anyone else was around. Hed find a horse that had a bad sore, and hed put a lot of attention on it, and the sore would heal up in a day.
Whenever Manson would sit down in the desert, she said, all the animals would gather around him even snakes. One time he reached down and petted a rattlesnake, she said smiling.
Charlie also read minds, she said.
Charlie used to walk up to me and start telling me what I was thinking about. Hed read peoples minds. A lot of people feared him because they thought he had strange powers. But his power is love. Little kids believe it they believe when you wish, concentrate, it comes to you. Thats Charlies power.
The girl, whose father she said, designs guidance control for missiles in the Pentagon joined Charlie when she was 16 years old. She said she had been asked to get out by her parents. She met Manson on a dirt road in Topanga Canyon, listened to his music, talked and stayed with him forever.
Hes the only man Ive ever met who loved. My father taught me it was wrong to love and made me hide my body. Charlie was the one who taught me that love was beautiful.
Mansons belief that a revolution was coming, she admitted, was talked about at the Ranch.
We talked about the revolution that was coming. He said the black people and the brown people had been oppressed for so long that they were going to rise to the top and anybody who doesnt get on his knees to these people is going to die.

Too much of anything is not good for us.
When a government says a drug is dangerous, it means the drug is dangerous to the vested interests of the well-heeled pharmaceutical donors they rely on to fund their campaigns.
Drop some acid.
Then try to drive a car.
Puff Ho article, huh? Makes sense.
If Huffington Post readers are not already into mind damaging drugs, then why not?
I urge them all to eat as many ‘shrooms and drop as much acid as they possibly can.
We’ve got so many weirdos, creeps, and thugs now days that I am not sure they could convict ole Charles if he was to have committed his crimes in 2017. You just know that some sleazy lawyer would find a way to get him off.
Skydiving is one of the safest ways to jump out of a flying airplane.
Don’t believe this. I worked with the crazies and criminals. Have fun until it’s not fools.
This would be like asking drinkers during Prohibition which brand of rotgut was the safest for recreational drinking.
Safe?
These people are nuttier than squirrel poop.
If you have ever known someone who had a bad acid trip you know how idiotic this statement really is.
It can be a life altering experience and not in a good way.
.... a new survey of drug users suggests that these psychedelics are actually some of the safest...
A survey of users of hard drug users? At HuffyPo, of course. I’ll bet they didn’t have to look very hard for a sample group to survey from their base of fringe lunatic liberal readers.
There was a story recently about a “feminist man” who was hanging out with some of his feminist buds just having a good time, he ate some shrooms, started getting paranoid and shot a young woman to death before the night was over. Apparently a good portion of the evening was streamed to youtube. I didn’t see it but saw a few people talking about it over the last week.
This is a good clue as to what is wrong with the anti-american media.
And sleeping pills are the safest form of suicide.
I’ve always heard the exact opposite.
There must be a modern day version of Timothy Leery who advises wild mushrooms for whatever sickness you may have.
Yeah, whatever.
I’ve read stories such as the 28 y/o Karate Expert who consumed some mushrooms at a friends home, then ‘woke up’ to discover he ripped the heart out of his friends chest and was consuming it. This was about four years ago in the states.
I know of mushrooms being used for foods and for ceremonial purposes, but one has to be very careful in selecting them.
I only purchase mushrooms from grocery stores, and then only for eating.
Mad Men “Far Away Places” LSD episode. Pretty accurate depiction.

I’m ambivalent about psychedelic drugs
I had a vast amount experience with real LSD and fresh plump mushrooms teeming with psilocybin as well as some peyote buttons here and there
Last experience was summer 1977
Millions of people have used these drugs and a handful who did were members of the Manson family
The tag smoker or drinker or orgy participant is just as much an indicator
However Charlie did use the girls natural malleability and drugs as part of his manipulative medicine bag
No question
Nor do I think psychedelics are safe
They can be life altering for the fragile
One needs a strong sense of self and everyone doesn’t have that
Trying to explain the self realization or connectedness or elemental awareness one feels in such drugs is impossible to explain to folks who haven’t done it
Drinking is an anesthetic .. numbing agent all cloudy and goofy and strips self control away or exaggerates irritants for some
Marijuana stimulates at first a heightened giddy sense but fades into a depressed couch lock watch TV and be inward for most
Psychedelics are so intense especially at 1965-1974 doses
I guard the experience for what it was but I don’t advise it for everyone especially women
I would not change at least not for me
Besides having a wife and family and being a Christian and southerner those experiences from that era are huge markers in my life
No question about it
Which belies the whole premise of the article
these are not recreational drugs
In the early 80’s husband and I worked in a Christian mission directed toward Westerners traveling in Nepal. We helped local mission hospital as they treated tourists and hippies. One of the people we helped was a British WHO nurse who had been stationed in Laos. She decided to try these less harmful mushrooms while vacationing. Little kids were selling them on the street, so how harmful could they be, right? My husband met her as he rescued her from climbing the barbed wire fence encircling the hospital compound. She was totally out of her mind. It took three weeks for her to even begin to be normal again and at that point she described how she had hallucinated eating children (which was a real thing she witnessed in Laos). She had a hard time believing still her guilt was imaginary because what she experienced was so real. Meanwhile, the British embassy took her passport, purchased the next plane flight home and charged her bank account for the service. (Interesting difference between the Brits and us regarding civil liberties!) One bite of a mushroom destroyed this woman’s life for quite a few years. Yep. They are certainly less harmful. (eye roll)
Well everyone is entitled to their opinion. Mine is that I would decriminalize drugs. Except LSD. For LSD I would have those who produced it or sold it executed. There are few drugs that drive people permanently insane after one dose. Producers of those should be killed without mercy.
MARIJUANA is not panning out as the ultimate GOVERNMENTAL CASH COW. Legalizing ACID has a better chance at filling government and pharmaceutical coffers.
