"She laid out her ideas on matriarchy, androgyny, homosexuality, sadomasochism and other topics in her Yale PhD thesis Sexual Personae: The Androgyne in Literature and Art, which she defended in December 1974."
I presume she defended successfully.
I sent her an email admiring her intellectual honesty, once upon a time. She responded, favorably. :)
"She's a babe", I wrote chauvinistically.
Ah, OK. That’s Sexual Persona, btw - I thought it was her Master’s Thesis. Her book is really an examination of romantic and decadent literature. I still haven’t plowed my way through the whole thing.
In 1996, when I ran a speaker’s series at a private club, I invited her to come. She came for free, spoke two hours, and took questions. I still have my letters from her when I invited her. She was quite pleasant and very generous with her time.
