No; there is nothing Christian about it, no matter the date. Even historically, these regions were less Christian and more secular than most of the rest of the country, and had governments that had more of a bent for centralization and accumulation of power rather than limited government, thus making themselves more important than God. (One example I can think of is how the Middlesex and Essex Turnpike, a toll road that charged 3¢ to users, was driven into bankruptcy by the free Edgar Shunpike. Today, the Middlesex and Essex Turnpike, apart from a short stretch that remains in Iselin, is Amtraks Northeast Corridor railroad and the Edgar Shunpike is part of US 1&9; both are owned by the government these days.)
New Jerseys neighbor, New York, has historically been more along these lines in terms of character. Tammany Hall had a tight grip on commerce and even social mores, and when the Democratic Party effectively replaced it, those got only worse.

“16-17 year olds have been getting married since forever.”
Indeed. And the bill would have further intensified the climate of immorality with storms of teen abortions and single mothers.

Incorrect. The law permits marriage under 16 with parental consent. Please read it again.

Correction: Its even worse than that; a family court judge can permit marriages for those under 16. That takes it out of the hands of parents.

I think they did read it. Do you approve of those under 16 being able to marry with the consent of a “family court judge”?

My grandfather was 15 when he married my 17 year old grandmother. They had 7 kids and died together as devout Catholics.

Yup, the nannystaters need to mind their own business.

How so? Are there that many modern teenagers actually seeking to be married?
This is a law that Sharia-believers have been taking advantage of, not Christian teenagers.

Indeed; let Sharia take its course. Right?

My mother married my father when she was 16. I was conceived under a proper roof. My grandfather married my grandmother when she was 16, again, no shenanigans.
That's the way things were in those days. Perhaps treating young adults LIKE young adults would go far in combatting the infantilism running amok with 26 year olds being treated as if they are still children.

No family court needs to tell parents what to do with their kids unless they are abusing them into forced marriage the kid doesn’t want-get the damned govt out of family business, period. And most 16 year-olds who are raised properly to have a sense of morality and responsibility are not really kids-they are young men and women-at least out here in BFE they still are...
That said, because I graduated at 16 I decided I was an adult and asked my parents to emancipate me-they did so, reluctantly, allowing me to become an adult the hard way-I’m glad, and have no regrets. I had eloped, saw the mistake, got an annulment and had a child at 17-still managed to work, go to college, get a degree. My first legal marriage lasted for 20 years, my kid never hated her parents or got into trouble. Adult age in Britain is 16-we are f***ing up here by calling and treating those over 16-18 “kids”-it is turning them into snowflakes...

Who would have expected this? While I didn't vote for him, I sure didn't expect this.
He is not the only one to have fooled me. To name a few who turned out fakes: Ralph Peters, Brad Thor, & Marco Rubio. Romney, P. Ryan, and Kasich turned out far worse than many of expected even though we might have been highly critical of them.

Muzzies love him for this. Go to NJ with your child bride.

I did read that but it is a very low instance. Search your family teee. History in general. Teens did marry and it was not usually exploitation. The pint of parental or court approval is to prevent or keep down exploitation?
Do you know what is exploitation? Screwing or impregnating a teen and then NOT marrying them.
