An unnamed motorist at a gas station in Elmwood Park, Illinois, shot and killed a would-be carjacker in early April, the whole event being caught on the station’s security cameras. However, police say the motorist acted in self defence and will not be charged for the incident.

Looks to me like they knew each other. Confrontation looked expected.
So don’t be so quick to make a hero out of the Long-Haired, Maggot-Infested, Dope-Smoking FM Rock ‘N’ Roller guy. He “could have” gone there to meet and kill the guy in the red jacket.
I will say one thing, the Long-Haired, Maggot-Infested, Dope-Smoking FM Rock ‘N’ Roller guy was a great shot. Looked to me like he fired first and got the guy, first shot, make it count.

I’m licensed to carry, carry everywhere, and have long hair.
The perp walked out with his pistol in hand. If someone walks to my car with a pistol, I'm getting mine out too. It didn't appear that the perp wanted a friendly talk.
Bravo! for the victim saving the taxpayers years of litigation, and enprisonment of this A-hole. Not to mention the possible retribution from the perp when he walked.

Redcoat opened the passenger side door, but I think there may’ve been a passenger in that seat that pulled the door closed. Driver was smart to exit the car before opening fire, as the passenger would’ve been in the crossfire.
Passenger says “Thank you!”.
That’s not much of a car to try and steal.

It looks like there were two people in the car and the carjacker didn’t open and close the door.
Rather it looks like he opened it and someone in the car pulled it shut on him. Then he tried talking through the window and it went south from there.
I don’t quite see the part where he got hit bad enough to kill him.
The bad guy pulled his gun from the small of his back.
Wonder where the good guy kept his gun.
What's the resolution on your screen? I can see "long hair" but that's all I can make out.
People insist on putting “This is graphic and may disturb some viewers” disclaimers on these things. I haven’t seen one yet where some gremlins get offed that’s disturbing. Maybe it’s just me?
