That was my first thought too, that he is being set up.

They think it will fail badly and want Cruz attached to it. No idea which.

I'll go with Option B. Cruz is up for re-election in 2018 and the Dems will use this to go after him. Since he has been a thorn in the side of the Pub leadership, my thinking this is a way to get rid of him so the elites led by McConnell don't have his opposition.

You are confused. Cruz was not eligible to be president because he was a Natural Born Citizen not because he was an Illegal. I don’t believe any rational person believes he is not a citizen.

My respect for Cruz was lost when he blamed the Chicago Riot on Trump and his supporters rather than the radical Left.

That was a total NothingBurger. It was not a “bill” or a would-be law but a RESOLUTION regarding a Rule.

This RESOLUTION had no binding effect but would reflect the wishes of the Senate.

Misreported and a example of both FAKE NEWS and confused reporting.

Trump can change the Rule without Congressional approval.

Liberal jibberish. Blaming congress was what kept Obama in power. The old media set the narrative of blaming congress for every ill. Who has set immigration policy? A single useless, unelected blackrobed tyrant on a high bench.

Yup. Cruz is Satan incarnate, evil to the core. We should expend all our efforts to remove him from office, since he’s always lyin’

Oh, look. How cute. They're rearranging the deck chairs on Titanic.

Without 60 votes in the Senate, Obamacare CANNOT be repealed; it can only be tweaked. Anything less than full repeal means the Rs take all the blame away from the Ds when the POS breaks in half, sinks to the bottom of the sea, and sucks millions of Americans down with it.

And along with the Dems, let's send another big THANK YOU out to Dubya's very own Chief Justice, John Effin Roberts.

"can anyone here expand on the ‘existing conditions’ coverage in AHCA? I want to know if it looks like EC’s will still be covered in AHCA."

Oh sure, no problem.

Here is the old structure under Obamacare.

It may surprise you folks, knowing my contempt for Cruz, but I think this is a good thing.

I doubt Mitch McConnell grasps all the reasons why, but I can’t say for sure. He does surprise me once in a while.

Many folks are all ready to pounce on anything Trump does. “Oh this is just more proof of what I said...”, and so it goes.

1. By putting Cruz in charge, it gives the ultimate review of all things “Conservative” to Ted. If he then lofts something close to what Trump has, it says two things. It says he basically agrees with Trump’s take on it. It says he has come to the conclusion that this is the best that can be done for now. This should minimize the number of folks who are trashing Trump on this.

2. If Ted can find a way to make the bill even better, and get the Senate to vote for it, it will be one of the few times I’ve seen this massive motor-mouth produce the goods he always seems to back, but never does.

3. If Ted does improve the bill, he will have done Conservatism a solid favor.

4. This bypasses other Senate committees and moves the vote directly to the floor of the Senate. This won’t die in committee.

5. This allows Ted and his group to tinker to the utmost they can, before bringing it to the floor of the Senate for a vote. He will have had the power to craft this bill to exactly what he wants to see implemented, that he thinks he can get passed.

6. This should minimize carping over the bill, and the destructive nature of Trump criticism that isn’t always very well thought out based on the realities of the times in which we live. (Senate and House centric...)

McConnell may have done us a solid here. I wish Ted the best possible luck in improving the bill, or at least not losing the good that is in it.

He will also have to remember that this barely passed the House. He can’t tinker with it too much or he may create a problem with it passing the House.

Was McConnell stoned? Or did he find the testicles he’s needed so desperately?

Plus it gets the right wing side on the side of the bill. The question is will the moderates/left wing republicans vote for it too.

Actually this is a smart move by McConnell as it’s easy to complain about the bill that comes out of committee—especially if you formally ran a filibuster against previous bills. This takes one of the strongest voices out of the mix if the bill isn’t that great.

Interesting that Rand Paul, a doctor, is not in the group.

Mitch McConnell has put the Senate Obamacare Repeal and Replace Bill in the leadership of Ted Cruz.

Since Cruz has no friends in the Senate, this is an attempt by McConnell to placate the base. Then, when it inevitably fails, they can move on to Obamacare Lite, Part II, and pass what our wonderful senators actually want for us.

Healthcare is not a winning issue right now. Poll show Obamacare increased in popularity, this bill is not popular, and people said they would LESS likely to vote for someone who voted for the bill. Let the Democrats own healthcare and step in after it collapses.

It’s important to at least vote for it. We need someone on record saying we tried but the Dems blocked us.

Those are minor, in the scheme of things. Lawsuits and the like are only 2-3% of the cost of healthcare.
