Ankara (Turkey) (AFP) - President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned on Tuesday that Turkey would bring the curtain down on its over half-century bid to join the European Union if new accession chapters were not opened.
Erdogan's threat to say "goodbye" to the EU came just minutes after he rejoined Turkey's ruling party in the first major change to take effect following a controversial vote to boost his powers.
Relations between Ankara and Brussels have tumbled to unprecedented lows following a failed military coup against Erdogan in July.

Not so sure that is what actually happened last July. In my opinion, it was a fau coup to purge the military and jail all the opposition. And my gut tells me he had help in the US. I suspect that CIA Chief Brennan acted as the last Teoman advisor for Erdogan. Probably gave him the list of names that started the purge.

who the hell would want Turkey to join the EU anyway?
Turkey you are on the border of a third world country led by a dictator who is a radical muslim, who looks to make all of Europe muslim.
Despite all the hullabaloo, Turkey is not now an ally of the United States, but more nearly aligned with Iran and Russia.
It is not even a convenience to have any US installations within Turkey.

It was not a coup, it was a purge. Notice how the masses had all those pro-Erdogan flags during that fake coup? Where did they get all those so fast?
Agree, and there were other indicators. The stong one was the initial list immediately used of like 1,600 names.

NATO has to reconsider Turkey’s membership. They have clearly decided to go back to the 7th century. Let them and treat them like the rest of the goat humpers in islam.
As for Europe I would look at Turkey and reply, “say when”.
