Trump 'very happy' with bill outlawing future border wall
American Thinker ^ | 5/2/17 | Ed Straker

While it's commonly known by now that the new spending bill that Congress and the Trump administration agreed to funds mostly Democratic priorities, and doesn't fund President Trump's border wall, what's not widely known is that the new legislation goes even farther than this. Not only does it not fund the border wall, but it prevents the government from constructing a border wall with any funds.

First take; one congress can not pass legislation preventing nullification by a future congress.

Democrats were incredulous that they, out of power in all branches of the government, got everything they wanted and Trump got nearly nothing. They are now emboldened to demand even more when the next spending bill comes up in September.

And there are those here trying to say "Have no fear! Take courage, everyone! The 2018 budget will be better! It will be different!"

That’s not what this is about; it’s about the present. The government was already authorized to build a border wall; it just wasn’t funded. This bill not only doesn’t fund it, but also bans its construction - so it’s not even possible to juggle funds to make it happen. Even if Mexico said “we’ll pay for it”, this bill would ban that.

A future congress can do whatever it wants. But as it stands, this is a serious step backwards.

It just keeps getting worse and worse. There is no way to positively spin this anymore. Trump is not “playing 3 dimensional chess” either. We lost. Big. And I don’t know if we can recover.

How do Trump supporters feel when they hear the president say he is "very happy" with a bill which outlaws border wall construction? Do you still think this is all part of a master plan to improve border security? If constructing a wall takes time and needs to be funded in advance, at what point shall we begin judging Trump on his words and actions?

His book “The Art of the Deal” should be entitled, instead, “Taken to the Cleaners” or “How to Throw Away Every Advantage of Being in the Majority” or “How to Turn Something into Nothing”.

“Trump is not playing 3 dimensional chess either”

LOL. It’s 6D chess. 3D is the type of chess that regular people play.

...

Is there a source for the actual wording?

Trump has a simple choice. Veto it and have the uniparty override his veto making him look weak. Or sign it and put a positive spin on it. 1.5 billion for border security is not terrible. Probably more than the total invested in the last 2 decades.

I word searched the bill but couldn’t find it.

I find hard to believe Trump is “happy” with any legislation that precludes construction of a border wall. That said, Perez, as despicable as he is, is right. This appears indeed like a resounding victory for the dems and their La Raza allies.

Establishment Repubs are craven, cowardly invertebrates. From the failed Obamacare repeal, to the wall, to budget priorities, the only thing those losers are capable of is wearing out kneepads at an alarming rate.

Why don't you dust off that photo shop of Donald Trump in the Superman costume?

My thought during the election was—probably echoed by many here—that Trump was our only shot at getting some of this stuff done.

If it turns out he wasn’t the guy to do it, well, we still took our shot. There was no real alternative anyway.

Should he prove undeserving of our trust, then we will just slowly need to turn the massive support he generated away from the cult of him personally and toward a more lasting political bloc.

“First take; one Congress can not pass legislation preventing nullification by a future congress.”
**************************************************************
That’s true, but Congress can pass legislation that, once signed by the president, becomes THE law until changed by Congress in the future.

So I’m not sure what your point is. If President Trump signs this legislation as it is, he is essentially castrating himself when it comes to his ability to build a border wall.

Clarification is needed desperately. If it prevents construction until the next budget (Sept.), that’s another story.

If longer, that’s disaster.
