Elton John has cancelled all of his upcoming concerts in Las Vegas after contracting a rare and “potentially deadly” infection while touring in South America. A representative for John said Monday that the 70-year-old “Rocket Man” Grammy-winner would no longer be able to honor the April and May dates of his Las Vegas residency, “The Million Dollar Piano,” due to an extended stay in a hospital recovering from the rare illness.
“During a recent, successful tour of South America, Elton contracted a harmful and unusual bacterial infection,” the singer’s representative said in a statement obtained by People magazine. “During his return flight home from Santiago, Chile, he became violently ill. Upon returning to the U.K., Elton’s doctors admitted him to hospital, where he underwent immediate treatment to remove the infection.”
“After spending two nights in intensive care followed by an extended stay in hospital, Elton was released from hospital on Saturday, April 22 and is now comfortably resting at home per doctor’s advice,” the statement added. “Infections of this nature are rare and potentially deadly. Thankfully, Elton’s medical team identified this quickly and treated it successfully.”

I don’t understand why anyone would want to see him in concert - and I like his music.
Elton’s lyricist Bernie Taupin is not gay. Elton writes the music to the songs, but not the lyrics.

Bernie Taupin and Elton John were an unbeatable songwriting duo in the 70s. Bernie wrote the lyrics to most every Elton John hit we know.
Yeah the gay std’s in south america are really nasty.
I am aware. And I never thought the line had gay intent. But, if someone did want to make the case, it’s not as if Bernie couldn’t tailor the lyric to his singer.

But he decided he was a butterfly and, ya know, butterflies have to be free to fly,
So he shined the wedding on and wrote ‘Please Let Your Son Go Down On Me.’

I think he later admitted to being bisexual before going all in (no pun intended).
Chuckled when he came out as bisexual since he was born in Middlesex.

I read the same thing about George Michael. That he wasn’t gay until he was 27. I’m not sure how that works.
