Spicer Slams Media: Dems Didn’t ‘Almost Win’ in Georgia, ‘They Lost’

During Wednesday’s White House briefing, NBC reporter Hallie Jackson asked if President Trump was “expending too much political capital on a race that Republicans should be winning easily,” referring to Georgia’s special congressional election. In response, Press Secretary Sean Spicer blasted the absurd liberal media narrative that it was a “symbolic” or “emotional” victory for Democrats despite their candidate falling short.

"“I thought that some of the coverage was a little intriguing as I watched it....Democrats went all in on this race. They spent over $8.3 million. They said on the record that their goal was to win this race. They lost. And the reaction has somewhat been, you know, that they almost won. No, they lost,” Spicer declared.

Spicer Slams Media: Dems Didn’t ‘Almost Win’ in Georgia, ‘They Lost'

Jackson interjected by pointing to the upcoming runoff between Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican Karen Handel in June: “Technically there’s still two months left though, right?” Spicer pushed back: “No, not in terms of what their stated goal was. They said that their goal last night was to win the race with over 50%....They didn’t run for a runoff, they ran to win last night, and they lost.”

He lectured the journalists in the room: “And so, anything sort of describing that as a loss is – is sort of inconceivable to me in the sense that that’s literally what they said their goal was to do....They put all the money that they had in there, they put all the firepower, and they came up short. So, it’s a loss.” Jackson interjected by pointing to the upcoming runoff between Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican Karen Handel in June: “Technically there’s still two months left though, right?” Spicer pushed back: “No, not in terms of what their stated goal was. So, it’s a loss.”

Here is a transcript of Spicer’s April 19 exchange with Jackson:

12:36 PM ET

(...)

HALLIE JACKSON: I want to ask about GA – Georgia 6th here. Two quick ones on that. Is the President planning to campaign for the Republican challenger there? Will he go to Georgia to get out the vote?

SEAN SPICER: I don't know. If needed, I think the President’s going to make sure that he does everything he can to maintain majorities and further the party. But we’ll see if we’re needed.

JACKSON: Is he expending too much political capital on a race that Republicans should be winning easily?

SPICER: Well, you know, it’s interesting. I thought that some of the coverage was a little intriguing as I watched it. Suddenly – the Democrats went all in on this race. They spent over $8.3 million. They said on the record that their goal was to win this race. They lost. And the reaction has somewhat been, you know, that they almost won. No, they lost. They made very clear what their goal was in this race. They spent $8.3 million and threw everything, including the kitchen sink, at it and lost. And so –

JACKSON: Technically there’s still two months left though, right?

SPICER: No, not in terms of what their stated goal was. They said that their goal last night was to win the race with over 50%. They spent $8.3 million. They didn’t run for a runoff, they ran to win last night, and they lost. And so, anything sort of describing that as a loss is – is sort of inconceivable to me in the sense that that’s literally what they said their goal was to do. And they said, “We want to win Tuesday night with over 50%.” They came up short of their goal. They put all the money that they had in there, they put all the firepower, and they came up short. So, it’s a loss.

Right, but that’s a case of the Democrats spending a huge amount of their money and political capital. The press is claiming that it’s Trump spending a huge amount of his political capital on the race. I don’t see it.

Just watch now. Montana is the next one.

For some reason they can sell this to Hollywood and steal their money.

I chuckled when I saw that Alissa Milano was all pissed off about Georgia.

They have been stealing her bucks for years.

And the truth will cause some glee. Hey liberals -aholes, Me one of the early predictors of a Trump win, I know why and what data he was going off of then and what drives the “movement” - guess what snowflakes - neverTrumpers, yesterdays datrickers, we still like the fact and while until a post apocalyptic nuclear winter with siberian tigers occurs, us AlwaysTrumpees, we will prefer president “Mr.” Donald Trump over SOS (Sell Our Soverienty) Hillary (R you sure they not gonna lock you up)Clinton

I thought the game plan was not to talk to the degenerate communist homosexual scumbags in the ENEMEDIA at the WH on a daily basis.

Once a week off grounds is good enough for these depraved subhumans, unless something special is going on , like Trump is thinking about dropping a MOAB on DC on a weekend.

The left does not give up and they continue doing the same things that have worked in the past because the GOP has no spine. It does not work with Trump. They are so desperate to hyperventilate and find the “moment” it all fell apart for Trump that they blow everything up far bigger than it really is.

They are so hellbent on fantasy that people are really tuning them out. They are now the “boy who cried wolf” and we are ignoring them. I was a kid during the Reagan years, but I remember reading much about it as a young man and they were hysterical about Reagan as well, but it was not nearly as constant because media was different and even more polite. Trump has taken a page from Reagan and he connects directly with the American people.

I was in an airport a few weeks ago waiting for a flight and CNN was on - it was brutal. Two older women were sitting behind me and one remarked to the other “I did not vote for Trump, but this is ridiculous.” The other one agreed. That is what we are witnessing. More and more people cannot stomach the virulent left, but they are blind to it because they live in an echochamber.

It is actually amusing now - Spicer gives far better than he gets.... every single day.

Nick,

The Republicans in the race were all focused on beating each other. The Dems had others in the race, but they cleared the way for Ossoff to win in the hopes he got 50%. They are so desperate to create the narrative of Scott Brown taking Ted Kennedy’s seat was for the Pubbies.

The pubbies can now start shining the light on this guy. For one thing he doesn’t even live in the freakin’ district!! I would think the term carpetbagger has a very special meaning in Georgia. For another thing, he’s been shaking up with his girlfriend for 12 years without putting a ring on her. In a conservative district like that, it can’t go over well. It speaks to his liberal values. That doesn’t even get into his belief system which I’m sure is left wing. Face it, he’s toast. He won’t get that kind of vote total in June.

I was in a hospital emergency room with CNN on the TV and I heard basically the same remark. A black nurse looked at CNN and said that she didn't vote for Trump, but she wishes that they would leave Trump alone and let him govern.

Years ago I was in a meeting with a bunch of fellow special educators in my school district, and the behavior specialist who worked with the Emotionally Disturbed and Oppositional Defiant Disordered students (who were often shipped off to the alternative school) was griping about general ed teachers who had absolutely no compassion or tolerance for these kids’ outbursts, or even just their quirks. About one particular student she said, in her southern drawl, “They wanna call the cops if the kid FARTS three times!” Her hyperbole still tickles me so much and I don’t think I’ll forget her comment for as long as I live.

Your comment about how the left/CNN treat Trump reminded me so much of that behavior specialist’s remark. They are up his rear end all the time about every. single. thing. A few weeks ago I read (probably here on FR) about one “journalist” who tweeted out some nastiness about the commemorative Easter eggs for the White House Easter Egg Roll with the President and First Lady’s signatures, I believe. In addition to the typical pastel offerings for sale, there would be a golden egg available for a slightly higher price. This journalist tweeted something like, “Of COURSE Donald Trump has to have a golden egg!” I can’t remember what all the tweet said, but it was really witchy. Well, she ended up having to tweet out a retraction of sorts, because it turns out that OBAMA began the golden egg thingie just last Easter. Well, well, well. What a witch; so quick to blast Trump for some trivial thing...and she was wrong about it anyway. Her hero, Zero, was the originator of the “pompous” golden egg.

The left will never let up. They are tools of satan; there’s really no other explanation when you get right down to it.

Reagan was the one who woke me up to the outright mendacity of the Left. He’d get on TV and deliver a speech right to Mr. and Mrs. Main Street America, and then some Democrat dupe would get propped up there and follow this strategy:

1 - Quote Reagan out of context so as to set up a straw man that Reagan didn’t support.
2 - Beat up the straw man.
3 - Declare Reagan’s argument invalid by proxy.

OR (worse)

1 - MISquote Reagan so as to set up a straw man...
Steps 2 and 3 as above.

I don’t know HOW many times I saw these exact strategies employed. Reagan said one thing, and the guy pasted in there to give the Democrat rebuttal would NEVER say what Reagan said; they’d ALWAYS say something Reagan DIDN’T say, and then go to town railing against that.

Watching that dynamic repeated ad nauseum during Reagan’s Presidency iced it with me: Democrats are liars from Square One; they cannot win if they speak truthfully about the positions of their political opponents. In their arguments, they mimic Satan, himself, who speaks appealing half-truths salted with outright lies in a bid to win support from the unwitting, and the mentally dull.

To this very hour, the only difference between those Democrats, and the present crop is the ratio of half-truths to outright lies: today’s Democrats are nearly out of half-truths and have had to economize considerably on their usage.

Osoff is toast. We had 11 serious Republican candidates running nasty TV ads against each other, and just one serious Dem candidate who spent an unheard of $8.3 million on his campaign and the Dem still lost? What is Osoff going to do when all the GOP money goes to Handel and all the GOP firepower is concentrated on the him?

He was running against 12 Republicans. Once the Republican votes unite it will be a skunk. They know it, that’s why they had to win outright, or lose. They spent 8 million opposed to Handel’s 75K. There is no way to get around the fact that they lost against a wide Republican field and will lose badly in the runoff.

Well, to be technically correct, Pajama Boy got 48.1% of the vote, not 48.6%. That’s actually a lower percentage of the vote than Hellary received in the district during the 2016 presidential election (and she didn’t have to spend $8 million+ to do that).
