How much Dem involvement / money in the race for Pompeo's Kansas House seat? (vanity)
My own curiosity | 4/14/2017 | freedomposter vanity

Posted on 04/14/2017 8:22:31 AM PDT by FreedomPoster

As most of you know, last Tuesday the special election was held for the Kansas Congressional seat formerly held by Mike Pompeo, who is now serving in the Trump Administration as CIA Director.

My question is: How much money / effort / volunteer time did national Dems put into this race?

Now that the race has been won by Republican Ron Estes, albeit by a much slimmer margin than Trump won the district, the Dems are claiming "oh, we knew that was a safe Republican seat, we didn't even try hard."

How true is this?

Based on what I am seeing here in the GA 6th District, I find it hard to believe. We have a similar election next Tuesday for Tom Price's seat (HHS Secretary). There is strong indication of massive money from national Dems being thrown at this race, given all the yard signs, direct mail, and TV ads.

Base on this, I find it difficult to believe something similar didn't happen in Kansas. However, the Kansas City (Red) Star claims Dems did not spend in that race. See here: http://www.kansascity.com/news/politics-government/article144127349.html

"Contrary to Trump’s tweet, Democrats did not spend heavily on the race. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee provided phone banking in the campaign’s final 24 hours, but otherwise stayed out of the race in a district that was perceived as a safe seat for Republicans."

Can anyone comment on this? Preferably with sources?

Here’s an active link for that newspaper article.

Also, if there’s a Kansas ping list, I’d appreciate someone pinging this to it. TIA

We are in the Olathe area. Can’t tell you much about Kansas except that it is a solid red state. Would not surprise me if Dems wrote it off.

As some one from Kansas I thought the news was saying the Dems were throwing a lot of effort into the race. A report from the Wichita area would tell more accurately what took place.

I read an article in the Fake News that they poured massive money into Kansas and the GOP candidate was not that great but he still won.

I saw a heck of a lot of ads for the Democrat in the race. Certainly on par with the GOP candidate, so the Left was getting money from somewhere.

I believe I was the "source" in liberal spending on this race.

Whether or not the dim party spent big bucks, is not in contention, though the Red KC Star, claims nothing out of the ordinary.

I am aware of how things are done in these races: liberal activist groups are the answer as to how hard liberals work to win races and occasionally you can track their less than obvious spending but it takes those who do this for a living, rather than an "interested observer" like myself.

In this race, the D.C.C.C. wanted to stay low so as to place Thompson under the radar, especially in rural Harvey Co. (seen as a "must win" for victory) where Thompson was positioning himself as "standing up to liberal Pelosi" to the independent voters.

To get this and other KS House seats, their candidates cannot look like Pelosi nor Schumer pawns, as Kansas loathe CA and NY libs!

KS RINOs line up with the Blue Dogs to muddy the waters greatly.

These races in KS is a conservative against two opponents: a dimocRAT and a "moderate" Republican.

Yep but just not from the DCCC, so as to not scare KS rural voters into thinking they were putting the seat into Pelosi’s camp.

Didn't work too well, as rural voters went 70%+ for Estes. Ha Ha.

You are correct about the liberal activist groups and this Wichita station even reported it. Problem is, they are a very extreme leftist group working to try to take this seat away from the republicans.

Low turnout is the norm for off-year elections so if there was a chance, and I'm sure they knew about the typical low turnouts for off-year elections, this was it and they failed.

Here is a blurb from the election day blog from this Wichita station. Which leads to a question, why in the world would they align themselves with such an extreme leftist group like DailyKOS? Just goes to show how extreme left even our local news stations have become and one of the extreme left groups behind the democrat candidate.

Where is the balance to that? Like those groups who fight for our freedoms and liberties, the exact opposite of those from leftist extremist groups like DailyKOSmunists? Disgusting, even our local medias can't be trusted at all. Here is the blurb and link:

"11:45 a.m.

Readers of a liberal blog have donated more than $200,000 in less than a week to the Democratic candidate in a special congressional election in Kansas.

The Daily Kos is encouraging readers to contribute to and make phone calls for Democrat and Wichita civil rights attorney James Thompson. He is giving Republican state Treasurer Ron Estes a tougher-than-expected race in the 4th District of south-central Kansas.

Democratic National Committee member and Daily Kos member Chris Reeves said Tuesday that the blog set up its donation site last week. A tally Tuesday morning showed more than 12,600 donors to Thompson.

Very true, that was a good ad with lots of truth to it. Democrats in the house end up being puppets of Pelosi. That wouldn't have changed if Thompson had won. Even though it's not my district, I'm so glad Thompson didn't win for that reason.

Not in every county - I checked.

Both Sedgwick & Harvey Cos. Estes got less than 50%.

Not exactly devastating news for conservatives, considering the low voter turn out during a "special election" but we need to put more thought into it come '18 for Estes for sure so we're not caught unprepared, as happened with Huelscamp!
