The Utah state legislature has passed a joint resolution calling for a return to federalism in general, and, in particular, the end of the federal Education Department. The measure passed the Utah State House with a vote of 60-14, and the State Senate, 20-1. It was enrolled on March 17.
The measure specifically urges that Congress end the federal Education Department and block grant funds for education to the states:
WHEREAS, the [federalism] Commission received the following summary of federal overreach:
EDUCATION Recognize that education is not a power delegated to the federal government under the Constitution, it is reserved to the states; Abolish the United States Department of Education and block grant administration costs and federal appropriations to the state; Repeal the mandates of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act; and Relax the overly expansive interpretation of federal regulations, which increase costs and adversely affects education at all levels.
The resolution also: calls upon the President of the United States to reenact President Ronald Reagans Executive Order 12612 and to create a national commission on federalism; urges Congress to pass and adhere to the Enumerated Powers Act; urges Congress to pass the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act; urges Congress to pass the Intergenerational Financial Obligations Reform Act; urges Congress to direct the Government Accountability Office to conduct an audit of federal programs, rules, regulations, and laws that have federalism implications; demands that all branches of the federal government refrain from any activity that limits the policymaking discretion of the states.
In addition, the resolution encourages other states to join with the state of Utah in documenting issues of federal overreach.

THIS
The concept works for me. But, I’m not sure it’s true federalism if your asking for federal funds.
YES!!! Another promise by our President: “Get Government out of Schools and give it back to the States”...YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!
No reason we should send a dollar to Washington to ANY federal agency, only to get back 10 cents in funds to do what the interminably employed bureaucrats dictate.
Get rid of the department but keep the money flowing. Good luck with that one.
All good and well but UT and SLC in specific have more pressing issues with illegals, sanctuary and welfare for the lazy they could tackle first.
Clean local and work outwards.
Awesome and surprising...recently Utah, has seemed to shift lefty.
We have had a lot of problems lately, but I think things are going to change...
Hip hip hurray. Also get rid of Common Core and quit feeding the kids propaganda.
Yep, we are!!!
“All good and well but UT and SLC in specific have more pressing issues with illegals, sanctuary and welfare for the lazy they could tackle first.”
To “tackle” these issues, Utah would first have to ban the Mormon Church. Next to the Catholics, they are the bad actors in religious support of illegal immigration. The “God Business” needs a steady supply of “converts,” and the Mormons are very active in Mexico trying to bring “new saints” to America.
ABOUT TIME. The so-called Department of Education is nothing but a State-controlled propaganda machine over the minds of all our children. As Socrates knew over 2000 years ago, you give the State power over “education”, they will never educate, just indoctrinate to make slaves for the State. (The snowflakes are exactly that—ignorant, emotionally-controlled slaves/jackboots for the State).
We need local control—not even “State” control. We need to abolish all the centralization of “education”. It is up to parents and their local communities. And our Classical Christian curricula should be replaced—and eject the Marxist, Neo-Freudian literature and lying textbooks that the Marxists wrote starting in 1930s with Dr. Ruggs and Dr. Count to brainwash and warp our children and make them into America-hating, ignorant jackboots and addicts who can’t even understand Natural Law Theory—basis of the American Constitution and individual Natural Rights from God.
Next. Get the Federal Government out of our health “care”. They have no business putting bureaucrats in charge of doctors or patients. It is socialism which makes people into slaves of the state.....which is also totally unconstitutional.
The way to solve this is abolish the federal money to these “do-goodies” and make them civilly and criminally liable for the behavior of their “charges”!
>The God Business needs a steady supply of converts, and the Mormons are very active in Mexico trying to bring new saints to America.
Amen. Put me in charge and all I would need to do is enforce the law.
Greed, piety and graft is prevalent in way too many people. Common sense isn’t in these cases.
True education is the most basic problem. Without an educated public there is no freedom. Without virtue instilled in those people, there is no freedom possible.
If the children were truly educated (and absolutely none are, now—they are being destroyed in these unconstitutional brainwashing centers), then you wouldn’t have a welfare state or illegal immigrants, etc.
The most pressing issue is to get all kids out for the evil indoctrination system which is destroying them NOW and will totally destroy a child if the System has them for more than four years.
Education is No. 1 so millions of more useful idiots aren’t being pumped into the system yearly. We have ENOUGH already. Stupid ignorant voters for socialism (like Barney Sanders-—just brain-dead idiots who are incapable of thinking critically are CREATED HERE!!!!!!! in this unconstitutional System of mass indoctrination which embeds dependency only.
Music to my ears!
I blame parents or the lack thereof. When your kid(s) are being fed BS, fight back. Intelligence required.
I got in trouble in 5th grade for reversing a transformer with a 12 volt battery on the secondary and having a few classmates hold hands and hold the primary 220V primary in series. I only touched the battery a few times (about 5) and allowed the field to collapse enough to teach that reduction works in reverse.
I should have gotten an A, but instead got a paddling.
