Governor Jerry Brown Hopes to Fast Track Gas Tax (vote sought by Thursday)

SACRAMENTO -- Governor Jerry Brown made a rare appearance before two legislative committees Monday in hopes of fast tracking a major roadway repair bill funded by an increase in the gas tax by 12 cents a gallon.

It was a proposal that stalled late last year. But this year Democrats hold a two-thirds majority in both houses of the legislature, meaning a tax increase could be passed without Republican votes.

“The roads are broken, and they’re getting worse, and they’re not going to get better unless you get a significant injection of money," Brown told members of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Using allotted road funds for everything but roads.
And we should believe things will be different this time,
why?

Last time I looked, Gov Brown got extra taxes for transportation and roads and squandered it on a bullet train to nowhere. He got extra money for dam maintenance saying it was dire and skipped any for the Oroville Dam, despite it needing repair. He got extra money for schools saying the students needed it and squandered it on salary and pension perks for admins. It ain't just road funds that are squandered by Brown.

Gov Brown simply can't be trusted, can't be believed. It's all to benefit his buddies and graft.

What's being done with the other 58.83 cents per gallon CA is getting already?

Just a silly question. What is the gas tax going to actually fund. Early the Gov wanted to use much of the revenues to fund public employee pension underfunding liabilities, then when that was dead on arrival, he suggested it would fund road repairs and maintenance.

Looks to me he just wants revenues to spend on anything he wants.

Actually I just filled up yesterday and looked. It’s posted as .47 cents. Maybe .47.5. But that doesn’t include sales tax which is also added in so you’re close.

Another creepozoid democRAT Kalifornia governor, Gray Davis announced previously that all of the gasoline taxes collected specifically for road maintenance would no longer be used for roads. He went on and on about the evil automobile, that if we maintained and built good roadways, the idiotic Kalifornia resident would have the audacity to actually DRIVE on them! He stated all the gasoline tax revenue would be re-directed to more important things. While he was recalled, I sincerely doubt that anyone changed his idiotic $$$$ transfer of the gasoline taxes. And now, Moonbeam wants more $$$$. Creepozoids all.

Brown, perhaps if you spent the gas tax you all ready collected on roads instead of stealing it to buy votes from immigrants the roads would not be falling apart?

Tell me why this time over all the other times you have raised the taxes “for the roads”, you will actually spend it on road work?

Lying theif...

The only people going to be left there are the handful of the ultra rich and everybody else will be serfs - in fact if not in name.

Maybe the Raiders knew what they were doing by relocating to Las Vegas.

major roadway repair bill

Who believes that even 1% of this will get spent on roads?

Welfare and Illegal Alien Defense Fund, more likely.

Simple answer to the question WHY? Because they are Democrats and need money to buy votes. Any questions?

Upcomming Kaliforny elections should be seeing State senate and congressional districts being flooded with renewal applications of license to steal making the rounds where ever those holdovers who supported this krap exist.

Using allotted road funds for everything but roads.
And we should believe things will be different this time, why?

The proposed legislation actually specifies that no more than 5% of the funding can go toward road repair. So the criminality is built in, openly, right from the start.
