News that a high school student wrote nothing but #BlackLivesMatter on his personal statement in an application to California's Stanford University - and got in - has been raising some eyebrows.

Ziad Ahmed, a high school student in New Jersey, proudly tweeted his news and received a range of reactions in response. There were congratulations aplenty of course - "forever in love with your audacity", laughed one user.

In a profile of Mr Ahmed, notes that he worked for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign and had also been invited to the White House under Barack Obama's administration.

All the top schools are liberal. It is just a matter of degree.

I do worry about my daughter being in Durham. Crime is a concern. She needs to stay on campus and avoid the city.

Duke offers very little when it comes to advantages over public institutions like UNC these days. I know guys wedged in the hollers of Appalachia at tiny Methodist churches that have degrees from Duke. Where Duke excels is in its graduate schools. A graduate degree from Duke is like having the Holy Grail. I know a few of them. Anything medical/science/economics is winning the lottery

However, private school can bring the costs down to in-state levels. My son could have gone to most private schools in the country for what we pay to send him to Virginia Tech.

Caring about qualifications is racist.

Never use a black graduate of an Ivy League school for anything that is important. That's the bottom line of this story.

“To me, to be Muslim is to be a BLM ally, and I honestly can’t imagine it being any other way for me,”
I’m sure the many black African slaves of Islam through the centuries would have to agree.

I agree with what you are saying.

The best way to get into a top graduate school is to have an undergraduate degree from a top school. Not saying state school undergrad isn’t possible, just harder.

The Duke endowment funds the building of Methodist churches. 10% of the endowment is slated for building/maintenance of Methodist churches.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Duke_Endowment)

Daughter plans to study economics for undergrad. My daughter isn’t liberal, so I told her not to discuss politics on campus. In fact, she is somewhat bitter about how affirmative action is hurting her in college admissions right now.

She got waitlisted at Harvard. Harvard admits around 2000 students for 1600 spots. Nearly half the admits are for special categories: athletes, under-represented minorities, legacies, international students and “developmental cases” (rich/famous kids like Malia Obama who will be attending Harvard in the fall).

For academic admits not in the special categories, that leaves about 1000 spots. With 40,000 applicants, her chance was only 2.5%. Her chance to get off the wait list is probably about 5-10%, so tough. Last year, Harvard accepted about 75 students from the waitlist.

Look how happy Obama is to be with a group of Muslims who are embedding themselves into America. Can you imagine a smile like that if he were meeting with a group of devout Christians? He wouldn’t even do it, but if he did, he would be frowning.

Muzzy + Hellary + BLM + Obamy WH = anything he wishes.

A white kid who studied hard and made the grade would see his application in the circular file.

One of my coworkers had a daughter that went to Yale or Harvard. They set aside some slots for poor women of Appalachia. Either that or she pulled the Native American lever. I never figured that out.

A friend went to UNC-G and got into Duke to get a Masters in Economics. He buys banks now. He’s rich but his wife won’t let him have any money :)

Being a Methodist, I know a ton of people who have a seminary degree from Duke. At Duke, you learn how to keep your conservative ideas to yourself.

She may be registered but I believe she won't be "attending" classes. Like Chelsea Clinton at Stanford, she'll get her degree for "world experiences" and because of who she is.

And I am forever in awe of the level of Stanford's stupidity.

Cheapens the value of every degree "earned" from Stanford for goodness knows how long.

Don Willett is a judge with the Texas Supreme Court. Was on Trump’s list of potential Supreme Court nominees. Looks like he may be nominated for the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

This VERY interesting article mentions him: http://www.politico.com/story/2017/04/donald-trump-supreme-court-236925

Graduate of Duke Law School. A friend of mine just asked if my daughter wants to meet him this summer to “talk about Duke”. I’m saying YES.

Daughter is interested in law school after undergrad Econ degree. Having some connections to a judge can help get a Clerkship! Maybe he will even be on the Supreme Court when she gets her law degree.

If she gets a law degree in NC, I think she can automatically sit for the CPA exam.
I would definitely do that meeting.

Good to hear from you.

Yes, very interesting article. Wouldn’t be surprised if Trump makes 3 more appointments to the SC over the next 7+ years. And - only need 51 votes to confirm them all.
