An explosion has reportedly taken place on the underground system in the Russian city of St Petersburg.
Horrific images from the scene show bloodied commuters lay on a platform at Sennaya station.
Eyewitnesses say an explosion took place amid reports of bombings. It comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin is in the city holding a meeting with the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
The blast happened at 2.30pm local time on the blue line of the underground system.
Three metro stations have now been closed, local media report.
"One eyewitness wrote on Twitter: "I was riding down the escalator and suddenly an explosive wave from below, echoing from the tunnel. The station is evacuated. "

Russia is not the enemy.
It takes one heck of a lot of explosive to achieve these results. I would guess there was a gas pipe leak. Whether it is man-caused or not may not be determined unless some group claims credit. While accidents do happen, coincidences (Putin in town) happen less so.
My understanding of the Belorussian government is, they are essentially a Mafia in control of a nation state. Probably they wouldn’t last long without Putin’s support.

My first thought was also that the CIA is the primary suspect.

Trump should call Putin and offer sincere condolences. But to the US media should say, “I have just called V. Putin. I am not going to tell you what I said to him. You should just get the transcript of our call from your usual inside intelligence sources.” Then walk away from the mike.
That’s what I’d do, but he has proven to be smarter than I.
BBC has been running russian anti-govt protest stories for days, claiming “young people” are resonating with the protest organisers, etc. the usual Soros-style stuff.
BBC often have it as their very top news story, and follow up with lots of in-depth “analysis” on their world service radio programs.
