During an appearance on ABC’s This Week, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) expressed deep concern about government surveillance and the intelligence community leaking information to the press.
With discussion among conservatives shifting more and more towards the “deep state” in recent weeks, Paul told host George Stephanopoulos that it’s known that the Obama administration spied on former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. He was referring to transcripts of pre-inauguration phone calls between Flynn and the Russian ambassador being discussed with the press, as the envoy was being surveilled by the U.S. Those calls led to Flynn’s resignation.
“It is very, very important that whoever released that go to jail,” Paul said. “Because you cannot have members of the intelligence community listening to the most private and highly classified information and then releasing that to The New York Times.”

Ahh... why not polygraph the potential leakers? It’s a standard practice within the sensitive intelligence community.
The journalist who published the story should also be prosecuted. It’s a good idea to enforce the law if possible.

Dear Senator Paul: How about finding out WHO obtained the transcript of that conversation?
Why the hell are all of these supposedly intelligence and insightful people ignoring the fact that the transcript exists and that it IS the evidence of electronic surveillance that everyone is supposedly looking for?
Polygraph him also. I’m surprised that all the Congresscritters were so politically correct that they couldn’t bring themselves to ASK HIM, while he was UNDER OATH, if he leaked it.

I have been pushing of jailing publishers too. Last week I learned that the SCOTUS ruled publishers could not be jailed for publishing leaks.

I really feel like Trump is being too trusting here.
Since Comey did not feel compelled to share that an investigation was ongoing into Trump since middle of last year, the Oversight committee clearly does not have the oversight needed to managed down on the situation.
The GOP members of the committee should sign a letter as a group to the President stipulating they believe it is necessary to conduct more assertive oversight on this particular investigation. They should recommend a third party appointee (as Trump alluded to a month ago) or to convene a special team of military investigators headed by Mattis to investigate and confirm the accuracy of all facts involved.
The only thing the FBI, NSA, etc will fear is the US Military stepping in with access to all of their records via permission granted by the DOJ.
Otherwise, unless yesterday was just a facade to make it look like the FBI is hard on the case before they dismiss it, Trump is in trouble here.
