I worked at a residence for Seniors. In CA, this segment of medical care does have a lot of restrictions regarding residents being “citizens”, with proof.

And, the same applies to the staff. You are required to be fingerprinted and drug screened to work there.

However, we hired a nurses aide who was here illegally .. but we didn’t find out that information until three (3) years after she was employed.

We made a big stink about it .. but it was the processing that was the problem. Our immigration system was a mess then .. and it still needs to be improved.

I have been so sick of it for so many years. I remember back to when Carter was President and he decided to take the Border Patrol off of the border and do away with Customs Patrol Officers and generally opened the border after years of it being pretty secure. The flood of illegals began and along with the issues with many of them being criminals was at the time they flocked to all the agriculture jobs which is what my family did. No one cared, oh it is just agriculture it doesn’t matter. So a lot of my family started working construction...well you know how that went. We are a pretty tough bunch though and have hung in here all these years managing to make a living even though as you say hiring illegals keeps wages low in that type of work even if you can keep your job.

In my area though I have to say there are only a couple of ranchers that I suspect hire illegals. There are some that hire the green card workers. None should be hiring them, and especially galls me. I don’t even agree with them hiring the green card workers when there are citizens that would take the jobs, but at least they are not hiring illegals.

I can proudly say we have never hired an illegal to do a speck of work all these years and never would. We did have to occasionally work with them over the years working for those that did hire them and know how that is too. We spent some time in Arizona and saw more of it there than we see here now. It seems like each area is a little different, in some areas people hire a lot of them and in other areas not so much.

Sorry they seem to be hiring a lot of illegals in your area, that is not good and I pray this will end soon. I feel it has turned around so should see some daylight at the end of the tunnel hopefully soon. It has been a long time coming but at least now it seems more people do care about the issue and want it ended. That right there is a big win.
