Trump's Drain-The-Swamp Budget Puts GOP Lawmakers To The Test
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 4/16/2017 | Staff

Fiscal Policy: President Trump has clearly brought his business acumen to bear when crafting his first budget proposal, producing the most gimmick-free, strategic, focused — and deeply conservative — spending plan we've ever seen.

The White House had already revealed the basic outline of Trump's budget plan: He intended to cut domestic program by $54 billion so he could fund a much-needed boost in military spending.

The "skinny budget" he released on Thursday provides details as to where those spending cuts will come from. Every agency except Defense, Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs is targeted for reductions that range up to 31%.

These are, it should be noted, real spending cuts. They aren't cuts against some "baseline" of expected spending increases, a gimmick that has let politicians on both sides of aisle claim to be reducing spending while actually increasing it. When Trump says the EPA's budget would be slashed by $2.6 billion, and that he's lopping $11 billion out of federal foreign aid programs next year, he means it. After decades of scandalous Washington budget obfuscation, the clarity of this document is refreshing.

If republicans don’t seize this opportunity to cut spending and repeal obanacare while they have power...

They are going to lose big in 2018.

I will personally work against them.

They will have shown who they really are and serve.

Have you noted the sheer number of superlatives applied to Trump from many different sources? In this case the comment: ...the best we've ever seen.... They run the range from from good to bad (Trump is also "...the most evil..") But they are all superlatives.

Many ran on "conservative principles" and now the rubber needs to meet that road.

Funny how they pandered for votes with DOA Bills to repeal Obamacare and now that they have a guy who would sign in cannot bring themselves to provide same.

I predict that it won't be long before Trump asks the question about whether they meant what they said to get elected or were they all mouth-no action and selling themselves on promises they never thought they would keep.....

I work in an embassy overseas for the DoD, and the embassy put out a list of the programs that are getting 0 funding.

It really looked like a funeral in the main offices.

I will be there working too. If they give amnesty or a Trillion dollars to unions in ‘”stimulus”. The carrier CEO bailout was enough to remind me, you can’t take your eyes off them for five minutes!

I’d love to slap the snot of McConnell for stating that President Trump’s skinny budget is DOA.

Sick to my almost death of that trash talk.

Wise-up GOP!

No more of y’alls’ special interests.

Like when McConnell lifted that rifle at the CPAC convention in 2014?

"If I'm given the opportunity to lead the U.S. Senate next year, I won’t let you down"

...putz...

I’d REALLY like the republican party to state their definition/interpretation of “the proper role of the federal government”.

Then go through the budget with that in mind. If it’s not proper it’s gone no matter how “good” it feels/looks.

Then argue for their position based on that, not on whether or not some needy family is going to have to decide between food and heat. And if too many people don’t like it, lose the election and find a JOB. You have a seat in congress, not a CAREER. You have an obligation to pass a Constitutional budget. You do not have a Constitutional right to your seat or tax money to ensure re-election.

It’s possible the R party agrees with the D party on the proper role. Certainly some Rs do. It’s also possible that Rs let Ds distract the public by changing the debate to emotional individual impacts rather than the role of government and a Constitutional budget. And Rs are too stupid/scared/incompetent to change the subject back to the role of government.

My wife already gave me her Irish greeting this morning.

“Pogue Mahone!”

She tells me it means “Good luck!”.

Her Mom wishes me good luck all the time.

Yep...They’ve talked about the deficit and balancing the budget for as long as I can remember. It’s time for the Republicans to put up or shut up.
