Moving the embassy to Jerusalem is really not very different from restoring the Churchill bust to the Oval Office. I would agree with that, but neither one of these things was anything more than a symbolic gesture.
I've said all along that the U.S. will eventually move its capital to Jerusalem. But it's not going to happen until all of the players over there come up with an agreement on the final legal status of that city.

I think your President believes the legal status of Jerusalem HAS been settled for a long time and moving the embassy there is emblematic of that belief.
