Just imagine how much worse it would have been without the development of hydraulic fracturing.
Yeah that doesn't make any sense. The Obama administration slapped regulations on the coal industry that kept them from exporting coal. It may be that the export market is now open to them again.
Hopefully they’ve learned a lesson about voting for Democrats.
“Rebellions are built on Hope.”
With places opening back up, the reduced capacity no longer suffices.
Bit Obama said those jobs are gone and not coming back. They are back thanks too Presodent Trump.
Can't do that, but I can imagine a faux-American one doing it.
2016:
I’m in this area.
Since Trump won I know of 2 people hired and 1 who decided not to retire.
The big difference I see is the coal trains are now running once a day instead of just twice a week.
They were running 3 or more times a day back in 2009.
Our local power plant was scheduled to change over to natural gas from coal. I wonder if that will be cancelled?
Not to mention slowing down the pace of rising electric bills.
I live about 2 miles from a TVA fossil plant.
There are 4 giant GE boilers as well as coal
being brought in on barges.
They just got through spending about a billion
meeting our past great leader /sarc EPA regs.
I hear more train whistles than usual here in East Tennessee...excellent news!
Are you kidding? The likes of Kristol, Goldberg, Erickson? They’d barely blink. These guys don’t feel invested spiritually or morally in America.
It does my heart good to know these guys are working again. They were humiliated and demoralized by the previous president - they are regaining am immeasurable joy...self-respect.
Just make sure they don’t forget who made it all possible the next time elections roll around.
Got your answer. It was a variety of things. Some converted to nat gas and some shut down. So possibly the ones that continued going are now running at more capacity. Nat gas was an inexpensive and consistent way to run. There also was a certain type of coal that had less sulfur that was shipped in (I think he said from Wyoming, possibly?) As hub says, as much as they wanted solar and wind power, if fails because consistently sunny/windy days do not happen. He also explained the shutdown of a tva plant in N Alabama. Sorry I cannot recall the name. Anyway, Google bought it and has turned it into a large server farm. Hub explained it will draw a tremendous amount of power.
TVA retired about half of its coal fleet since Obama's war on coal. Including shutting down the John Sevier coal plant, 6 of 10 Johnsonville generators, and the entire Widows Creek plant. They're working on combined cycle gas plants in two locations that will replace coal-fired generation at those same locations.
I have a funny feeling that if the economy takes off under Trump, some of those coal units will remain in service to meet a new growth in demand. The nation is becoming more efficient in the use of energy, but there is still a strong need in many industries.
I agree! Give them McCain and give us Manchin. Best deal going!
Widow's Creek Fossil Plant. The really old units had been decommissioned years ago (units 1-6), but the 2 larger newer units were removed from service in the last year or so. The plant property, or a good part of it, was sold to Google.
