Technology is almost to the point where it is difficult to tell CGI from reality. People are still not quite right in CGI but close. A computer generated voice that sounds like a real person is still in the future.
However, there will come a time when entire movies are made without real people and the audience can not tell the difference. When that happens the days of actors and actresses will be over.
The change will be like when the movies went from silent to talkies.
“Child stars” will remain child stars for as long as they make money.
“Young actors and actresses” will remain the same age (sort of like comic books) and they will never embarrass the studio with their immature behavior.
If the movie going public accepts the new reality Hollywood as it exist today will be gone forever.
Still leaves it over 30 million, which is a lot of viewers, and apparently profitable. It’s got a long way to go before it’s dead.
On a 1.5 million budget that’s a massive success.
Remember when most of us COULD name a Best Picture nominee?
Even when our cable provider gives us “free looks” at HBO et al, as we scan the program guide NOTHING of interest shows up. I did record “Steve Jobs” for historical timeline on the technology, but was so bored with that I deleted the second half.
These self absorbed, pandering idiots couldn’t come up with a quality movie for anything. Pretty much the same for TV too. About the only thing to watch now are documentaries, and then with a grain of salt.
The “Best Picture” winner is pure trash. Scroll down for plot summary.
Mama is a crack addict, but the kid finds affirmation when he’s being sexually abused.

Do people really want AMPAS to go away? They do a lot of good work (film preservation, education etc)
Good news but, vanities belong in chat. They clutter up hard news.
"The AFFERMATIVE ACTION Awards"
The "awards" have lost ALL meaning because they are no longer determined and given on the basis of excellence, but on the color of one's skin, the level of their unAmerican bias, their P.C. dogma and ungodly depravity (the worse the better).
By their own hands and actions they have rendered their "Oscars Awards" totally irrelevant. Hence, from now on they shall be known and referred to as:
"The Affirmative Action Awards"
I would be DISGUSTED if I were black and my movie or I won in 2017. After the slams on the 2016 #oscarssowhite I’d feel more patronized than a black law student in 1982.
When recently released ex-con, “Gary from Chicago” is the “Oscar sensation”, you know they are scraping the bottom of the barrel and are wandering aimlessly in the vast wasteland of Hollywood.
Short summary: Nobody wants to see actors giving each other awards for movies that nobody wants to see.
It’s been a downhill slide ever since they went political way back when George C. Scott didn’t show up.
Me too, although I tuned out in the 80's. I'm only sorry that my decades of ignoring their narcissistic, delusional, self indulgent gala is that I couldn't honestly say I boycotted them this year.
The first I heard about it was yesterday morning. I couldn't tell you anything about any of the movies nominated for anything. And I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything worthwhile.
Not I. Our Sunday newspaper had a big section on the Oscars, which I quickly perused and discovered that I had not seen one of them. Even if I had, I would not wade through all the self-serving accolades and hype to see who won.
The big news from the Oscars was the colossal foul-up, which could have been avoided if Warren Beatty had used his brain. Much the same thing happened in 1964 with Sammy Davis, Jr. He quickly caught the mistake and got the correct envelope.
You are so very dead on.
When I checked on IMDB Sunday, it was 13 million. And you know they had to spend 5-10 million on marketing.
You think those changes are something to celebrate?
It’s good to know the winners weren’t based on talent. They were based on an agenda most people in the country are against. Keep it up hollywood, and no one will watch your movies anymore. Stupid people are really good at doubling down instead of realizing what they’re doing wrong.
A movie about a child, neglected by his single crack addicted mother, is preyed on by homosexual predators and becomes homosexual. Traded one abusive relationship for another. Way to go hollywood! This is NOT normal and never will be.
You think those changes are something to celebrate?
Robots and automation are taking many jobs, actors and actresses act as if they can not be replaced. My point is that technology will soon be at a level, producers will have a choice.
What is the product of Hollywood? Entertainment for the masses.
Producers invest a lot of money on the hope of getting that investment back plus more. “Stars” sometimes get 15 to 20 million dollars up front. If the stars were nothing more then zero and ones in a computer... how much less will it cost to make a movie?
Extend it to commercials, no residues.
Extend it to a computer voice that can be programmed to sing any style...
Do people buy music because they enjoy the song or the singer? If (big if) the music is good, then it is just a matter of marketing.
So I do not make a judgement on if this is a good thing or a bad thing, I am just pointing out that there will be a day when producers will have a choice.
