Meia Bias: President George W. Bush has issued a full-throated defense of the media's role in modern society. He's being way too generous.
"I consider the media to be indispensable to democracy. Power can be very addictive," Bush said in remarks on NBC's "Today."
"We need an independent media to hold people like me to account," he said.
Yes, we agree wholeheartedly. But he seemed to imply today's media were fulfilling that role. They aren't. And there's no better example than Bush's own two terms in office.
While we deeply admire the former president for not holding a grudge, the media spent much of Bush's eight years in office actively lying about what he was doing and what he was trying to do.

Stay out da Bushes.
According to Mika, their job is to tell us what to think.
When did the worldwide mainstream media start being pro-leftist, only? From the very beginning?
He’s becoming indefensible.
We don’t have an independent media. There are too many ties to the Democrat party. They’re in full support mode of Democrats while in full attack mode of Republicans. Every time we catch them in a lie, you don’t even hear about it except from alternative media.
It’s not just the Democrats: it’s the Bureaucrats.
And the Republicans without the stomach for a fight....
Bush did have some good impulses when he started, but he really let himself be destroyed by the press - even though he had seen them lying and politicking throughout the campaign leading up to his election. He never defended himself from either the press or the Dems.
Maybe Trump is overexcitable and shouldn’t respond to every little slight by some unknown “journalist,” but at the same time, he is perfectly right to stand up to leftist press harassment masquerading as news.
What can these people hope to gain by galvanizing the useful idiots?
Isn’t it obvious from Trump’s election that the jig is up?
GWB isn’t just simply being too ‘generous’, as the IBD editor purports - he’s downright disingenuous. And even that’s putting it lightly.
Does he not remember the relentless beating he took from the media all those years? Yet he still kisses up to them.
‘The media’ in the sense that we are used to it is evil.
What is important in a free society is unimpeded access to accurate information. The reason for most professional journalists is to impede or distract from the free flow of accurate information.
It is interesting how W was so quiet all during the 0bama years, and NOW he speaks up. The media weren’t doing their job during then, either. Very interesting.....
The first amendment applies to the media. As does anyone’s 1st amendment right to criticize the media and their uber slanted reporting
He's not. And he doesn't.
Don't be part of the problem.

...
Bush is an Alinsky-lite...he embraces all those who worship Alinskyish and calls them friends, look at his Prescott Bush lineage, abortionists, big government enslavement of blacks and importation of illegals at the demise of our republic.
Bush and his clan are enemies of the state.
A free and independent press is indispensable, unfortunately we don’t have one. The one we have is biased and an attempt to run the country to benefit their masters
Media Democrat Liberal Hypocrisy Trumps Republicans, the people and its President.
I am glad PT is not buying what these Hapless Hillary Harpies are selling.
George W. Bush has done the impossible: made Jimmy Carter look downright respectable and competent. I’m serious.
Bush = RINOs for Hillary...
We only need to put an adjective in front of that statement!
I consider the activist media to be the enemy of the American people. They are drunk with power that is addictive.
