Obama officials and the establishment media continue to wave the scalp of resigned National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, trying to squeeze every last drop of anti-Trump narrative from the matter.
As I had said privately, Flynn was not long for remaining as NSA. It's not because he's a bad guy, and accusations that he was compromised by Russian intelligence are as absurd as the Trump dossier BuzzFeed published last month. It's just that Flynn wasn't ready for prime time; hopefully his replacement will be.
So here's the latest.
The New York Times published a report last night claiming "Trump associates" had repeated contacts with Russian intelligence, which other media outlets breathlessly hyped:
However, they chose to spin the NYT report as definitive proof that Trump was involved in "hacking the election." Of course, the NYT report said ... the precise opposite:
American law enforcement and intelligence agencies intercepted the communications around the same time they were discovering evidence that Russia was trying to disrupt the presidential election by hacking into the Democratic National Committee, three of the officials said. The intelligence agencies then sought to learn whether the Trump campaign was colluding with the Russians on the hacking or other efforts to influence the election.
The officials interviewed in recent weeks said that, so far, they had seen no evidence of such cooperation.
OK, there goes that theory.
The other big story last night came from Adam Kredo at the Washington Free Beacon. Kredo writes that the hit job on Flynn was driven by former Obama officials concerned about protecting secrets of the disastrous Iran deal:
A third source who serves as a congressional adviser and was involved in the 2015 fight over the Iran deal told the Free Beacon that the Obama administration feared that Flynn would expose the secret agreements with Iran.
"The Obama administration knew that Flynn was going to release the secret documents around the Iran deal, which would blow up their myth that it was a good deal that rolled back Iran," the source said. "So in December the Obama NSC started going to work with their favorite reporters, selectively leaking damaging and incomplete information about Flynn."
"After Trump was inaugurated some of those people stayed in and some began working from the outside, and they cooperated to keep undermining Trump," the source said, detailing a series of leaks from within the White House in the past weeks targeting Flynn. "Last night's resignation was their first major win, but unless the Trump people get serious about cleaning house, it won't be the last."

Just watched Ed Henry on FoxNews with some DNC guy talking about this. Seems the story line is that they all heard about it on CNN, so it must be true.
I was hoping Ed would ask about whether anyone is looking into any contacts that Hillary’s campaign aides had with foreign officials.
1. We have to find out whether this was State, NSA, or CIA. The guilty party needs its swamp drained.
2. Team Trump needs to recognize that they are facing rogue professionals, willing to commit treason to accomplish their far-left political goals, and conduct themselves accordingly - and cautiously.
3. I’m okay with shrinking CIA, NSA, or both by 50% or more if they have enough staff to do their jobs plus conspire against the President of the United States.
There was some idiot Greek on Tucker’s show tonight who was adamant that Trump is involved and this is bigger than Watergate.
I wanted to punch a hole thru the television. Could not stand that idiot who was on. I was waiting for BO-Hillary questions as well.
Heard a caller on Levin show. Obama emissary notified Iran’s mullahs that change was coming prior to his inaugural.
I think that is what the President is going to have to do.
And if Congress won't help him (what else is new), then he needs to take drastic measures to clean out these infested agencies.
Turn over all intelligence power and matters to uniformed military and trusted and accountable DIA civilians until the insects are squashed.

I had a boss who had been a high-level official in the Pentagon. He said that the key thing in DC was never to let the baseturd politicians and reporters smell blood in the water.
Trump should have kept Flynn at least until the furor had died down. I think Pence was the driving force in the resignation.
If Trump is removed from office I’m afraid if what will happen. I simply do not believe the people who elected him will sit still for such a treasonous act. At least I hope not.
I have a similar bias in favor of uniformed and prior military. It’s not a 100% guarantee, but it’s a much better bet than the lace-panty “men” in the State Department.
I am praying that God unmask President Trump’s enemies and destroy them.
If the rumbling in this part of the country is indicative of the nation, expect a shooting war.
Seems like that’s all we have left..the power of God, but even God is strangely quiet....I’m afraid this weekends rally will be infiltrated by thousands of anti-trump Soros thugs! Our president is taking humongous risk I hope the people in Florida turn out in the multiple thousands! That’s all Trump has is the people...God help him!!
I don’t think God has been quiet at all. Daily we hear of more people publically exposed as against Trump. Daily we see the media acting so unhinged that they are no longer believable.
I don’t expect God will send an avenging angel to literally take out people, although I would love to see that. He is however, exposing them.
