White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters at the White House that President Donald Trump asked his national security adviser Gen. Michael Flynn to resign in response to an erosion of trust between the two. The issue pure and simple came down to a matter of trust and the president concluded that he no longer had the trust of his national security adviser, Spicer said during the White House press conference on Tuesday. He also revealed that there was a series of other questionable instances that also contributed to the erosion of the presidents trust.
Spicer said that Trump was concerned about Flynn after it was clear that he had misled the Vice President about phone conversations with his Russian counterparts about sanctions.
After the Justice Department notified the White House counsel that they had evidence Flynn was not telling the truth, Spicer confirmed that they investigated the legal ramifications of his actions. Spicer revealed that the Justice Department didnt notify the administration about their knowledge of the calls until January 26, nineteen days ago.
Spicer added that Flynns actions were not illegal, as determined by the White House counsel, but it created what he called an unsustainable situation.
Thats why the president decided to ask for his resignation, and he got it, Spicer added.

There is more to this story than has been released.
Based on this issue based on what reporting we have where the MSM admitted he never said he would overturn the sanctions and even the NYT said the conversation was “ambiguous” enough where Trump could keep him? I don’t believe it. Either something happened more behind the scenes, or Trump was encouraged by the establishment wing and intelligence services that wanted Flynn out. Trump has been pretty quiet lately, and I just wonder what is going on behind the scenes.
Trump had better go after the leakers with equal fervor, or people are going to think he doesn’t stand by his friends.
Numerous felonies were committed. Someone along the chain of custody of this secure info spilled it. Those who deceived it in the media are also guilty of felonies.
This needs to be thoroughly investigated and the guilty parties identified in a public forum.
My suspicion is that he was hired with a one strike policy, as he is a Democrat. When he left out important information in his briefing, information that later proved could be damaging, or give the media a meme, the thread was cut.
Trump made the right call. Obama should have fired a dozen dishonest people and didn’t. If he had to choose between Flynn and Pence over an apparent lie (Flynn did change his story, remember), it’s just a no-brainer.
Those who say Trump now has a problem are right. Blood in water. Emboldened leakers. Trump needs to make a bold move and go straight to the nation to explain it. Yesterday!
If not telling the truth gets you fired why do we have democrats in D.C.?.
If arrests don’t happen, the Left will quadruple down now that they think they have DJT cornered.
When the press magnifies an issue, take a deep breath and understand the it’s much less of a big deal than they are squawking about. Don’t say it’s not a big deal to the press because they can accuse you of not caring or being irresponsible.
Rule #1: Don’t lie to the boss.
Rule #2: When in doubt, see rule #1.
Or, #3, he lied to Pence, Pence said “I can’t trust him,” and Trump won’t trust anyone Pence doesn’t trust.
cut and dried
While I don't always agree with Mark Levin, he made a strong point about loyalty which I agree with. It is typical of the left to make a policy dispute personal, and Trump needs to keep the faith by taking down the fellons who felt no compunction against leaking sensitive intelligence information.
No one, now, has sacrificed as much as Flynn to make Trump President. Flynn kept the faith.
And those here who criticize him for being a registered Democrat, how much faith does anyone here have in those two corrupt self-serving turncoats, McConnell and Ryan.
It's really quite overt.
The leaking of the info is the concern. The idea that you have privacy on phone calls to foreign parties and governments is laughable. That was all fleshed out during the FISA expansion and issues. Congress and pushed for more power to the NSA, under the guise of safety and a terrorist behind every tree.
‘Or, #3, he lied to Pence, Pence said I cant trust him, and Trump wont trust anyone Pence doesnt trust.’
And why should Pence be trusted? He is establishment.
Gorsuch blatantly disrespects Trump in a show of sneering disloyalty. He stays. Gorsuch suggests he may be Roberts, Kennedy or even Souter, very alarming to me.
Flynn put himself out there way beyond Pence, but Pence gets the say so. Flynn did ZERO alarming.
Objectivity does not favor these circumstances.
Yup. Arrests would be good. But Flynn did have to go.
The issue of Flynn possibly lying isn’t nearly as important as the fact that his phone conversation was illegally recorded (probably by a member of the US intelligence community) and then illegally leaked to the press.>>> These guys have been leaking trumps private calls to foreign leaders as well. Trump knows it and he will find them and send them to jail..
If you think Pence can’t be trusted over. An Obama holdover there is no hope for you.
I'd wager that when the leaks first started, Flynn had a pucker moment where he was afraid his calls might end up hurting Trump and he made the exact wrong decision trying to protect his boss. When Pence and Spicer came out trusting what he had told them and ended up looking like fools for it, the game was over.
