I wouldn’t doubt that many are wanted for detention in Mexico —for murder, child molestation, stealing, rape, etc. there is a reason many don’t want to return.

This is all part of a strategy. Under the Obama administration most illegals caught near the border have been coached to claim asylum status and to refuse to identify their country of origin for fear of reprisal. This gets them a court date, sometimes years out, and release into the United States. Many Central Americans prefer this to not getting apprehended. It separates them from their coyotes and makes them less susceptible to being kidnapped and held for ransom inside the US.
