Buying cigarettes. Going off to war. Voting. They are things you can do at 18 years old in America.
A Nevada lawmaker wants to add gambling to that list.
Assembly Bill 86, sponsored by Assemblyman Jim Wheeler, R-Minden, would drop the legal gambling threshold from 21 to 18 years of age.

Mixed feelings. 18 year olds can be naive as can be, but if you’re old enough to cop a round for your country, then you’re an adult and ought to be able to adult things.
I remember my first taste of adulthood. I went to the enlisted club at Camp LeJeune, and ordered a Schlitz Malt Liquor, because I saw my uncle drink one.
One of life’s lessons. Uncle didn’t know jack about booze; it was disgusting.

Old enough to fight for the Country, old enough to be treated as an adult.

You can’t drink at 18, many states now have raised the age to 21, for the legal purchase of tobacco products, and most of today’s 18 year olds are imbeciles. So are 21 year olds, for that matter.

But not old enough to drink?

If you look at male mortality rates in the US, there is a strange looking bump until ~25 yr old. Been that way for decades.

I thought 26 was the new age of adulthood? If your parents have to provide medical insurance to the age of 26, you should not be able to make any decision on your own until you are 26. Otherwise they would have to be responsible for their own actions, which we know would violate liberal indoctrination.

That was long, long, long ago.

That’s probably due to ghetto yoots and gangs. ;^)

And n Texas, it was legal to drink and drive as long as you were 19. But that is back when you were responsible for your own actions. Now it is all because of white privilege.

It was there for the greatist generation but likely due to WWII. It’s there for the hippie generation too.

Old enough to defend our country, yes, but with a commanding officer nearby to do a lot of your thinking for you.

Those in the north of NY state can still drink at 18 in Quebec; those north & west can drink at 19 in Ontario.
