Over a dozen Republicans in Congress are expressing skepticism about President Donald Trump’s plan to construct an “impenetrable, physical, tall, powerful, beautiful, southern border wall” along the 1,954-mile-long border between the United States and Mexico.
Some of the GOP lawmakers say they will vote against any legislation funding a wall unless its potentially steep cost is wholly offset by cuts in spending elsewhere, reports CNN.
Other Republicans in Congress say that the wall, if built, will fail to stem the tide of illegal immigration from Mexico as well as Central America.
Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker counts himself among the legislators concerned about how any wall would be funded.
“I don’t want to see any spending, additional spending on anything done that is not paid for,” Corker told CNN. “We have got a huge fiscal problem right now — $20.355 trillion in debt projected to add $9.7 trillion over the next 10 years.”
Lamar Alexander, Tennessee’s other senator, expressed similar sentiments.
“Everything we spend we need to find a way to pay for,” Alexander told CNN.
Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski is also concerned about the budgetary effect of any wall proposal.

Congress gave Obama an $800 billion slush fund.
Congress gave Obama billions to give to Iran.
Congress is a joke. The eGOP is dead to me.
Personally, I think the first thing that needs to happen is we need to disincentivize coming here illegally in the first place. Take away all the handouts and freebies, make it virtually impossible to hold a job, to function in society. In short, make life for them here more miserable than in the countries they're fleeing, and we won't need a wall.
Keep giving them free stuff and no wall no matter how high will keep them out.
Yet Corker have no issue with the billions of dollars spent on welfare benefits to illegals or corporate subsidies.
Hope these BASTARDS in congress are ready for half the country coming after them with pitchforks in hand!!! Guess they DID NOT GET THE MESSAGE we sent in the 2016 election!!! If WE have a PROBLEM getting OUR wall before 2018 these BASTARDS WILL BE GONE!!! The American people ARE DONE with excuses from these ASSHATS!!!!
Suddenly after 8 years of Obama Republicans decide they are against deficit spending. Wow, that's like the Road to Damascus.
If I’m not mistaken, a bill has already been passed to build a wall and funds appropriated...It just wasn’t done...
