Trump gives the hard left a chance at power [please read before commenting]
Chicago Tribune ^ | 1/31/17 | John Kass

Posted on 01/31/2017 5:48:10 PM PST by markomalley

You can already hear the screaming from the political left over President Donald Trump's nomination of a conservative to the Supreme Court.

But don't allow yourself to be mesmerized by the flecks of spittle flying from angry mouths. Don't worry about jesters like that Hollywood actor at the Screen Actors Guild gala who wanted to punch those who disagree with him in the face —"with soul, with heart and with joy."

If you focus on theatrics, you'll miss this:

Because, for all the noise, the hard American political left can't really hate President Trump.

They love him. Or at least, the smart ones on the hard left do.

This president has given them an opportunity to reach for one thing they didn't have during the last eight years of Barack Obama:

Power.

The entire piece is actually fairly insightful. All of these protests are forcing the Democrats to go even harder left than they were...forcing existing members left and forcing out "moderates" to be replaced either by Republicans or even more radical Dems.

The author also points out that the establishment Republicans hate Trump almost as much as the Dems, because he is upsetting their apple cart as well.

And, oh by the way, he also lambastes the media for being partisan hacks as well.

For the Chicago Tribune, an actually fairly insightful piece (if you bother to read the whole thing)

The progressives are doing to the Democrats as we did to the Republicans. We just do it in a more civil way.

I have a hard time fallowing how the hard left has any chance at power. People eventually become tired of hysteria when the things they believe are happening don’t happen. Tump’s not Hitler and no amount of yelling that he is will make him so.

The most incredibly stupid comment anyone could write.

The progressives are doing to the Democrats as we did to the Republicans. We just do it in a more civil way.

But the reason they screwed up is because the let the establishment rats do to them in 2016 what the establishment did to us in 2012. Bernie was their candidate. Mod Dems would have gotten behind Bernie but leftists wouldn’t get behind Hillary.

Too bad, so sad.

How so? Do you really and truly see that "moderates" are going to be ascendant in today's Democratic party?

Well they’re practicing the old mantra of repeating a lie often enough that it becomes the truth.

Well if you gotta read it first what the hell’s the point in commenting? /s

A good piece as you say. The D party with a defective front-runner and having shafted Bernie who is too extreme for the base anyway is in a world of hurt, and their media allies are fighting the wrong battle.

What amazed me the most is how far the left has fallen in so little time. Who among us was sage enough to predict this a year ago? They’d make a fortune at the track...

Kass is the Tribune’s answer to the Sun Times’ Royko (may he RIP). He’s not there yet, but he tries.

Maybe I don’t have a very good imagination, but I find it hard to imagine a harder left US government than the Obama administration.

What this angry public theater allows is opportunity for the left to steamroll Democratic centrists out of the way, so they can grab control of the Democratic Party apparatus.

Because that's what this wild, seething game is all about now: control of the Democratic Party, or what's left of it.

Nope, I'm not buying the premise that Democrat centrists control the party. CPUSA has been the Dems' "steering committee" since around the time that the Soviet Union fell. More recently, other radical groups such as RevCom have helped consolidate that far-left grip on the party.

If there's an internal struggle in the party, it may be a more moderate group seeking to take power from the Marxists. Doubt if that will happen, though.

I agree. The party has increasingly become marginalized, and perpetually offended. In the end, the crybaby filthy out in the streets and airports, that are allowed to flourish and go unpunished are definitely going to run all the less radical dems out of the party. They’ve created this monster thinking it will work in their benefit, but it’s going to turn on them. They will take over the party, and will keep losing because the hard left is not popular in this country.

The same John Kass who insists that Rahm Emanuel is now a “sympathetic figure” due to the “sanctuary city” sedition?

Leftists are never insightful, but they try to be seductive.

I truly hope the Democratic party in the US emulates what happened to Labor in the UK.

This has been discussed on FreeRepublic not too long ago. The general sense is the Dems will lurch even farther to the left and will be a fringe party, the rump of its former self. The author get it right. All except that part about power.

The democratic party already have their brown shirts. White men are their Jews. All they will need is a worse economy, win a few elections and a Reichstag fire.

well remember Obama grabbed the nations attention INCLUDING MANY CONSERVATIVES at the DNC convention in 2004

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/politics-july-dec04-obama-keynote-dnc/

read it.

Made him a star across the board. Why? Because he came across as an incredibly moderate American flag waving guy. While preaching about lib values he also came across as level headed.

See, dems have to lie about who they are to win national elections.

He was a hard leftist radical but most saw him as a moderate ‘nice’ guy because he SOLD himself that way.

This article is simply more of the same BS where the enemedia swore for months over and over again that Trump was done, Trump has no chance, no path to 270, etc.. I lost count of the number of times Trump was done and was definitely going to take the whole GOP down with him.

And as far as anger being stoked, if the Dems and the enemedia keep up this crap that they’re doing now, which was the same crap that got Trump elected in the first place, only now it’s ten times worse, the losses to the Dems on 11/6/2017 will be staggering because it won’t be the left’s anger that’s stoked, but the anger of the rest of the country.

The Dems are still clueless as to why they lost, they are in total disarray, and still have no clue as to how to get back into power. If they go radically left, that is, double-down on why they lost on 2016, by 2020 they will be a rump party on their way out like the Whigs.

And it will all be even worse for them if they put white-hating, racist nutjobs like Keith Ellison in charge. They’ll finish the job of driving whites out of the party, this time as a matter of policy. President Trump has just pealed the unions away from the Democrats, and Obama stabbing Israel in the back at the U.N., combined with President Trump’s staunch support of Israel, will dry up the Jewish donations of the Dem party.

And to top it off, none of the above is even really going to matter one whit if President Trump gets the economy roaring again and reduces the REAL unemployment rate of U6 with REAL jobs that pay REAL wages, and not the part-time Walmart clerk jobs that make up the bulk of the “new” jobs under Obama. People ultimately care about providing for their families more than they care about anything else, and THAT’S how they will vote in 2018 and 2020.
