Uber found itself at the center of a storm created by the travel ban imposed by President Donald Trump's executive order, as angry customers accused the company of attempting to profit from a taxi driver work stoppage.

In response to a growing controversy, Uber announced it would create a $3 million defense fund to help cover the legal expenses associated with the executive order. It was unclear, however, if the move would be sufficient to quell the firestorm surrounding one of Silicon Valley's darlings and a fixture in countless mobile devices.

Uber continued to carry passengers—many of them protesters rallying in support of detainees—to the airport. However, the company announced shortly after 730pm Eastern that it would temporarily suspend surge pricing, in recognition that demand would be unusually high.

It won’t be long before the snowflake “walkers” will be boycotting EVERYTHING in the country. Their lives are going to be pretty miserable. Of course, being miserable is their goal in life anyway.

I am not watching any network news so all of this seems so ridiculous to me. There is this "hurricane" going on out there and I am not even aware of it except through FR. :-)

These people are going nuts and caving over 107 inconvenienced muslims. This is just the first week. They haven't seen anything yet.

Their business plan is to "attempt to profit" from taxi driver work non-stopage. It's laughable that they are appalled that Uber is taking advantage of a far more obvious opportunity.

“The New York City Taxi Workers Alliance called for a temporary halt to rides heading to John F. Kennedy airport”

The drivers are mostly pigdog murder muzzies themselves. Wonder how many of them are illegal aliens.

They (these protesting ‘walkers’) just amazingly go from leftist protest to protest, don’t they?

Who’s chartering the buses? Posting the info on Craig’s List, etc?

0bamaPhones should be revoked...or, at the very least, converted to flip phones.

Uber drivers are independent contractors. If any of them had wanted to stop driving, in “solidarity” with the cab drivers, they would have. Maybe some did. Ok so many of the drivers considered it an opportunity and grabbed it. How is this Uber HQ’s fault?

“Their lives are going to be pretty miserable. Of course, being miserable is their goal in life anyway.”

Any chance they will make themselves so miserable that they will just pass away from it? A great die-off, so to speak.

New York City cab drivers are boycotting the Airports because of Trump's refugee policy?

Gosh, I wonder why....

“New York City's taxi industry has been dominated by foreign-born drivers for decades - only 4 percent of current New York cab drivers were born in the U.S., according to the Taxi and Limousine Commission.”

Funny. I have Uber and always HATED LYFT. I use Uber when I go parties here in Hollywood just to show my face and get free booze. I’ll give the my money to Uber as the Uber prez is on Trump’s business committee now.

Same here in L.A. They really ARE ragheads. One jackhole even charged me $60 to LAX from Hollywood many years ago when I told the moron that La Brea is the way to go. His taxi name was Hassan. It only costs Uber $15 from Hollywood to LAX.

That last is almost exactly my comments from another thread:

The level of outrage from the Left on this has been unreal. It will be interesting to watch them try to sustain this, if Trump continues with the actions I expect from his first week.
