Woman impersonated lawmaker’s wife, snuck into GOP retreat

WASHINGTON — A woman impersonated the wife of a GOP lawmaker and snuck into the congressional Republican retreat in Philadelphia Thursday, the same day President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence appeared, retreat organizers told lawmakers late Saturday.

The revelation came as the nonprofit Congressional Institute that organizes the retreat investigates how audio of the gathering leaked. In an email to GOP lawmakers, institute president Mark Strand did not directly say that the impersonator was the same person who leaked the audio, but that was the implication.

“The Congressional Institute is continuing to investigate this breach in order to fully understand how it happened and to ensure it does not happen again,” said Strand’s email, which was obtained by The Associated Press.

The audio was leaked to several news outlets and first reported by The Washington Post. It reveals lawmakers airing concerns about the practical difficulties and political risks of repealing and replacing President Barack Obama’s health care law, among other things. There is also audio of a question-and-answer session with Pence, indicating that the intruder was in the same room as the vice president, which raises Security concerns ...

"Pennsylvania's wiretapping law is a "two-party consent" law. Pennsylvania makes it a crime to intercept or record a telephone call or conversation unless all parties to the conversation consent."

I am not a lawyer, however, it appears that what she did was illegal in Pennsylvania. There may have also have been Federal crimes committed; falsifying information given to Secret Service agents. You cannot lie to law enforcement, and you cannot present fake ID to them.

Of course, standards are only to be followed by Republicans. The Democrats can break any law they wish.

Remember when the press went ballistic about that couple who crashed a dinner at the White House? They simply dressed really sharp and showed up and were let into the place past the Secret Service and everyone else. It was a major security breach and the media insisted there could be none of that.

I read that they are attempting to ascertain her identity, but the media outlets definitely know who she is. They are saying they illegally recorded conversations were submitted "anonymously", but they cannot publish these without knowing the source. They will simply hide behind "press freedom" in an attempt to being accessories to her crimes.

Libby was prosecuted after a full blown press by the media for leaking who Plame was.

But that was then, and this is now.

If this woman broke PA state and broke Federal laws, the media will gloss over the facts and defend her, because she attempted to hurt Republicans.

I read the transcripts, and there is no real "There...there" regarding these recordings. All they show is Republicans weighing and the political options. In fact, they show compassion by the Republicans, because they didn't want to leave people without coverage. Of course, the press won't spin it that way.

They will publish words that say the illegal recordings were submitted They use those precise words to imply that there was not one sole news organization complicit so they cannot be nailed down, and to imply that they didn't know who was she was so that they can protect her.

But they know who she is.

If she used fake ID, lied to the PA cops, lied to the Secret Service (who of course were there), and broke the PA Wiretapping and Surveillance law, and the media knew these things, then yes, I believe the media is complicit in a crime.

But, good luck prosecuting the media. They have been playing this cat and mouse game for 100 years, and getting away with it (mostly). There is always a friendly judge, a friendly venue, and cowardly district attorneys that won't do their jobs. There have been reporters jailed however for defying certain judges who have integrity.
