Perhaps.

But this thing is going to have to be strong enough to withstand the elements, attempts at breaching both over and under, will have to have monitoring systems too.

It isn’t going to be a standard 9 foot security fence held up with some concrete, with some barbwire on top, that’s for sure!

President Trump has shown you can stand up to the left and survive politically.

None of what President has already done in just one week as President would have even been talked about if anyone else had won the election.

We are hearing a lot of resistance from the left but they are impotent in their effort to stop him.

The President of the US sets policy for the Executive Branch. The other two branches have no say on those policies.

All President Trump has to do now is enforce the laws that Congress has already passed and many of his promises will have been kept.

I waiting for the news when it becomes apparent that the migration has begun back to Mexico. Not sure when that will occur but I am sure it will occur.

God speed President Trump.

That’s chump change in today’s budget, and will yield a fantastic return on investment, whether Mexico pays for it or not.

#12, Come on guys Trump is smarter than that. This cost most likely also includes sensors above and below grade, arial Drones and Survellance Systems. That stuff gets costly.

What I would like to be involved in is the operation of a 200,000 Megawatt Lazer mounted to a remote controlled drone to take out the vermin as they try to scurry around the obsticles.

I think off the top of my head they might consider a tunnel boring machine to tunnel an access road about 10 to 30 feet below grade, i’m thinking of the Japanese tunnels they created under the ocean, not very big, just wide enough say for a Humvee with widened turnouts every mile or two which would also have access to the above grade sentry tower.

Having a tunnel solves several problems, you now have a superior defense against another tunnel, you have a secure access underground out of sight, you have sensors, and you have the footing for the actual wall if its not too deep.

“That’s 4,000 dollars a foot for a wall”

I’m guessing there will be billions spent on “domain” issues for using private land...I also think Trump will come down hard on any overt pork ... he has a perfect set up here...Congress give him $12 billion...he gets it done for $9 billion...On time and under budget!!

Considering how much it costs us to arrest and detain, plus feed, shelter and provide health care to illegals...this is a bargain.

There has been for a long time, even before Trump plans on how to create a border security zone, but those plans and i’ve seen a few are patterned after using multi layers of razor wire, fences and depressions.

Which is all and find. But....

Whats needed is a barrier that is a symbol, one that will last for centuries if needed and not to be torn down like the Berlin Wall. Nor does it need to be like between North and South Korea.

Its a “good neighbor fence”.

It does need to be very climb resistant, tunnel resistant in key areas, impact resistant say from heavy equipment in urban areas. I see cartoons of a wall of giant concrete blocks, why not? Especially in southern california. Make it look nice.

Out in the desert it can look military if needed.

Easy way to pay for it...impose a stiff tax on all the money being wired back home by illegals

15 billion for 700 miles of wall = 21.4 million per mile. That’s 4,000 dollars a foot for a wall. That’s one heck of a wall.
_______________

Its not just the length, it is the engineering and the obstacles. It is also for buying private property at fair value, when needed.

In the mountain regions, the wall may have to detour to the USA side a bit, yet still allow access for citizens. There are plenty of known and as yet unknown reasons that a border wall could cost upwards of $15Mil.

Are they trying to box Trump in by committing the cash right away? Trying to turn “Mexico will Pay for it” into Trump’s “read my lips” moment?

and for anyone balking squacking a mockign hte price- it’s a drop i nthe bucket compared to what will be saved PER YEAR once the wall is complete- The wall will have maintenance fees, and people will have to man positions and be paid to do so, but the total cost will still be very very small compared to what illegals cost this country every year-

A few studies have determined that our country spends anywhere from $400 BILLION to $600 BILLION dollars per year on illegals,- this amount factors in everything- arrests, incarceration costs, lawyer fees- damage to victims- lost wages- insurance spikes- money sent out of country- etc etc etc

Some studies estimate that the price may even be higher

The wall will be a ONE TIME fee of around $30 Billion- We can certainly live with that cost- compared to what illegals cost this country every year

Isn’t there some understanding (law?) that says the United States already has easement on a wide strip of all its own borders? There might not be much ‘eminent domain’ buying going on.

For some reason, it seems odd to me that the Border Patrol would have to ask permission every day to access the border.

Illegal immigrants residing in the U.S. send $50 billion in remittances to their home countries each year, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. The World Bank estimates that number is even higher, closer to $120 billion.

To put that figure into context, $50 billion is the same amount as the U.S. government’s annual foreign aid budget, notes the New York Times. It’s the operating budget of a midsize country, or in America’s case, enough to fund North Carolina and Maine for an entire year.

This - easiest way to make them pay. Impose a money wire tax from U.S. to Mexico. An unintended bonus is that this would act to identify drug proceeds since many drug traffickers also employ this tactic to move some of their money back to Mexico. It would be nice to track who is moving large sums of money via wire transfers. The way the system works now allows drug organizations to move large sums of cash with no record.

Better look at the terrain and what else is included before you commit to that; you could lose money. A river is the border across Texas, in other locations you would have to build on rock pile hills, dirt that has sinkhole characteristics when wet, shifting sands, ETC. Don’t get me wrong it needs to be built, but all of that will have to be dealt with by the builders.

Building a wall or other facility on the border also includes security, logistics of keeping workers in the middle of no where to work, and many other issues. People who built the fence that was built were often under attack from people on the other side with buckets of rocks and things like that. Getting supplies in and debris out of really remote areas at times had to be done with helicopters, even pack animals were part of the previous planning. People that work on the fence are often attacked, and live for months in really remote areas with no services and rightly expect more pay for that experience.

This project is going to be far more difficult than most can imagine, but it has to be done. Some sections will go up with lightning speed as normal construction will work in those areas but others will be time consuming beyond comprehension.

Maybe they can get back that $220 billion Obama gave to the Palestinians on his last day. That will pay for 10 walls.

It will not be “just a wall” or it would be ineffective. It will have to include technology and the construction of it will have to be designed with security in mind, it would more closely compare to a prison perimeter which I am sure are pretty expensive to build. The cost of building in remote areas and areas with terrain that makes building very difficult also has to be a huge part of the equation.

I have no idea of what a fair cost would be, but I am sure with President Trump’s background in construction he has a great understanding and will know if the costs are fair.
