President Barack Obama is seriously considering a pardon for former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning, according to a new report from NBC News.
Manning was convicted of violations of the Espionage Act and other charges in July 2013 after he stole nearly a million secret documents while working as an intelligence analyst, later giving them to WikiLeaks. The files detailed operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and revealed secret diplomatic cables, some of which were highly embarrassing to the US.
A Justice Department source told NBC News that Manning was on the president's "short list" for commutations. The 29-year-old is currently serving a 35-year sentence at Fort Leavenworth.
Edward Snowden, an ex-NSA contractor who leaked his own cache of files to journalists before fleeing to Moscow, tweeted in support of Manning on Wednesday, writing: "Mr. President, if you grant only one act of clemency as you exit the White House, please: free Chelsea Manning. You alone can save her life."
Snowden is also seeking a presidential pardon, though some say he faces a much tougher battle.
For Manning, it's likely his last real shot at a pardon in the final days of Obama's presidency. Though a decision to pardon the soldier would likely not play well with some members of the military, many of whom view Manning with disdain.

Pardoning a traitor would be a great reminder of why people came to loathe Obama.
Free Winky!
Bathhouse Barry just paving the way for himself.
Birds of a feather f—ck together................
Because the guy chops his dick off he gets a pardon from the pres!
Once free, this thing will be on the speaking tour making $ and bad mouthing the US,kind of like a future former president. Maybe they could do a twin billing?
If he pardons Manning, he's setting the groundwork for Snowden. If Snowden ever gets pardoned, the Dems will simply put a hit on him.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but this was the worst breach of national security, like in EVER. Catch and release is a bad policy for espionage.
This would not surprise me, for 0bama to pardon this traitor. That would be just one more way for him to insult the many millions who have served and sacrificed in our armed forces.
No!
Pardon Blagojevich instead.
The fact that this has been leaked says that it has been run up the flagpole to see what kind or reaction it gets. The reaction on FR and conservative sites won’t matter. It’s the MSM and the alphabet community who are important.
In the article it says a pardon or commutation wouldn’t play well in the military. Obama doesn’t care about them or their reaction in the slightest. He is probably the worst commander in chief in history.
On what grounds? For what reason? By what logic is he/she/it deserving of a pardon? Was there some kind of miscarriage of justice or law? Seems pretty cut and dried, the freak is a traitor, end of story.
...a decision to pardon the soldier would likely not play well with some members of the military, many of whom view Manning with disdain.
Disdain? The Air Force and Marine personnel I know (active and retired) would shoot that {expletive} on site if given the chance.
There were good reasons for excluding fruit loops like this from the military.
OK so if Obama pardons him then does that mean the government no longer has to pay for his sex change operations?
The way I refer to these pretend men and women is by using their before and after names together.

No, he shouldn’t be pardoned.
Meanwhile, there is no way in hell he is considering pardoning Edward Snowden.
So Mannings, a member of the military that leaked information, is forgiven, but the person he leaked it to, Julian Assange, needs to be eliminated.
I don’t understand the article’s comment that some think Snowden has more of an uphill battle than Manning. I thought Snowden’s leaking was more defensible. However I guess for Obama that will make a pardon less likely.
