Obama is seriously considering a pardon for Chelsea Manning (Actually Bradley Manning)
Business Insider ^ | 01/11/2017 | Paul Szoldra

Posted on 01/11/2017 8:34:14 AM PST by SeekAndFind

President Barack Obama is seriously considering a pardon for former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning, according to a new report from NBC News.

Manning was convicted of violations of the Espionage Act and other charges in July 2013 after he stole nearly a million secret documents while working as an intelligence analyst, later giving them to WikiLeaks. The files detailed operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and revealed secret diplomatic cables, some of which were highly embarrassing to the US.

A Justice Department source told NBC News that Manning was on the president's "short list" for commutations. The 29-year-old is currently serving a 35-year sentence at Fort Leavenworth.

Edward Snowden, an ex-NSA contractor who leaked his own cache of files to journalists before fleeing to Moscow, tweeted in support of Manning on Wednesday, writing: "Mr. President, if you grant only one act of clemency as you exit the White House, please: free Chelsea Manning. You alone can save her life."

Snowden is also seeking a presidential pardon, though some say he faces a much tougher battle.

For Manning, it's likely his last real shot at a pardon in the final days of Obama's presidency. Though a decision to pardon the soldier would likely not play well with some members of the military, many of whom view Manning with disdain.

Pardoning a traitor would be a great reminder of why people came to loathe Obama.

You can bet your booty that he's going to pardon Bowie....the most notorious traitor. ButI'm betting this will be 5 minutes before he leaves White House for the last time.

If he pardons Manning, he's setting the groundwork for Snowden. If Snowden ever gets pardoned, the Dems will simply put a hit on him.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this was the worst breach of national security, like in EVER. Catch and release is a bad policy for espionage.

This would not surprise me, for 0bama to pardon this traitor. That would be just one more way for him to insult the many millions who have served and sacrificed in our armed forces.

The fact that this has been leaked says that it has been run up the flagpole to see what kind or reaction it gets. The reaction on FR and conservative sites won’t matter. It’s the MSM and the alphabet community who are important.

In the article it says a pardon or commutation wouldn’t play well in the military. Obama doesn’t care about them or their reaction in the slightest. He is probably the worst commander in chief in history.

President Barack Obama is seriously considering a pardon for former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning...

On what grounds? For what reason? By what logic is he/she/it deserving of a pardon? Was there some kind of miscarriage of justice or law? Seems pretty cut and dried, the freak is a traitor, end of story.

...a decision to pardon the soldier would likely not play well with some members of the military, many of whom view Manning with disdain.

Disdain? The Air Force and Marine personnel I know (active and retired) would shoot that {expletive} on site if given the chance.

So Mannings, a member of the military that leaked information, is forgiven, but the person he leaked it to, Julian Assange, needs to be eliminated.

I don’t understand the article’s comment that some think Snowden has more of an uphill battle than Manning. I thought Snowden’s leaking was more defensible. However I guess for Obama that will make a pardon less likely.

Assange says that the swedes dropped the charges against him. The women who were allegedly victims never filed against him. But Obama presses him and the DOJ leaves the investigation open after 4 years. meanwhile assange has two kids and a wife and he basically locked up in the embassy without them.

What would George Washington or Abe Lincoln have done? Grant (not prez) a pardon? Remember Slovic? He just deserted and stayed in the war zone, he didn’t sell out his country. Who damaged US more? Come Jan 20th, we may get our old military back and throw away those red high heel shoes for the guys.

“Correct me if I’m wrong, but this was the worst breach of national security, like in EVER.”

I think Hillary has him beaten. She got a CIA agent inside the Iranian nuclear program killed days after she mentioned his name in an email. She lost an ambassador while sending his movements to Sid Blumenthal. No telling how many others she got killed, or who had to be removed for their safety after she deleted emails. Once deleted the intel services couldn’t know if the agent was compromised or not, so they reportedly pulled them all. That will hurt us for the next 20 years.

He would get the pardon because it will be said he has “paid” for his mistakes and that the damage done was just to our reputation.

I don’t think he should pardon any of those guys.

And Chelsea knows that if it doesn’t happen next week—he is looking at eight years of hard time.

I hope he gets his/her hopes up, only to be dashed onto the rocks.

Disdain!?

Mr. Robinson will not allow me to tell the world how I view a pardon by the despicable obama of this chubby-cheeked faggot traitor...at least on his forum.

So, in respect to that, I will not further comment...except to say that if obama pardons this chubby-cheeked faggot traitor, I will work diligently to discourage any young person seeking the advice of an old retired Sergeant Major on whether he/she should join the US Army.

I will do so until such time as senior leadership of the Armed Forces go on record and condemn both Manning and obama as traitors.

Period!

The president is holding up the investigation over 4 years to punish him without findings. This guy has done more to open up our political process than anyone I can think of. Is that the “crime” to which you refer?

Do you find it discomforting that you are on Obama’s side in this issue?

A little but I'm heartened that I'm joined by almost every military and intelligence official and probably 95% of conservatives.

Funny how you keep trying to make this about Obama while ignoring the overwhelming number of national security professionals who hold him in contempt. Deservedly.

Now that Obama's leaving office do you think he'll have the balls to slink out of the embassy? I mean, what else could he have to worry about?

He will “slink out” of the embassy wen the US appreciates how he revealed the lies about what our politicians do to retain power.

Trump is held in contempt by many of our “security professionals.” Witness the constant leaks. Does that mean we should lock him in an Embassy?

I don’t know what Trump will do.
