FLAT ROCK, Mich./WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co (F.N) said Tuesday it will cancel a planned $1.6 billion factory in Mexico and will invest $700 million at a Michigan factory, after President-elect Donald Trump had harshly criticized the Mexico investment plan.
The second largest U.S. automaker said it would build new electric, hybrid and autonomous vehicles at the Flat Rock, Michigan plant.
Ford Chief Executive Mark Fields said the decision to cancel the new Mexico factory was in part related to the need to "fully utilize capacity at existing facilities" amid declining sales of small and medium sized cars such as the Focus and Fusion.
Fields also endorsed "pro growth" tax and regulatory policies advocated by Trump and the Republican-led Congress. "This is a vote of confidence for President-Elect Trump and some of the policies he may be pursuing," Fields said.

Government Motors takes another hit....
President Trump does not need the White House Press Corps. He can send tweets when he wants to and reach real Americans. The press can respond to his tweets if they have questions. They just don’t get the ratings from TV-quality video or the opportunity to ask their “gotcha” questions while he is on the spot.
So far, President Trump on Twitter has done more for international relations (Taiwan) and for jobs (Ford and others) just by saying and doing the right thing than I ever imagined we’d see before the Inauguration.
I think Trump has been completely wrong on one yuge topic.

Dear FoMoCo,
In one month, I will buy a new Honda CR-V compact SUV. It is made entirely in the USA, mostly here in Ohio.
We looked at Ford compact SUVs and they were made in other countries.
So, I’m supporting American jobs and not Mexican, Vietnamese, Chinese, etc., jobs.
I own an F150, made in USA. I own a Mustang, made at the time in the USA. I own an F450, made in the USA. In the past I’ve owned everything from a Falcon to a Pinto to an Aerostar. Ford had always been my go-to car company.
So, it’s not about FORD.
According to globalist free marketers it is impossible to create incentives to keep multinational corps from strip mining our economy and shipping it overseas. They have been saying that since the late 1980s as they have destroyed our economy while enriching the financial and political class doing the heavy lifting. The same groups that just went all in about $1.5 billion in a failed bid to get another globalist sock puppet elected as president.
Trump is illustrating what a big lie that was and how the globalist free market types were loyal to themselves but not the country. Access to our consumer market combined with reasonable corporate taxes and regulations was all it ever took to strategically protect our country. This was never hard to do. No multinational corp would ever walk away from our market and the globalist types deserve the beat down they are getting for being stupid and greedy.
Forget even the jobs at the plant
Think of Ford spending money like you think of a tourist spending money... you want the tourists come to spend money in your town... not the other town
So consider 1.6 billion of Ford money to build the plant will now not be leaving the US to be spent in Mexico.
And 700 million of Ford money will be spent in the US
