'Stances have shifted': Russia, Turkey, Iran are discussing chopping Syria into zones of influence

Syria would be divided into informal zones of regional power influence and Bashar al-Assad would remain president for at least a few years under an outline deal between Russia, Turkey and Iran, sources say. Such a deal, which would allow regional autonomy within a federal structure controlled by Assad's Alawite sect, is in its infancy, subject to change and would need the buy-in of Assad and the rebels and, eventually, the Gulf states and the United States, sources familiar with Russia's thinking say.

The original French plan for Syria was to divide the current country into four pieces. Looks like that is what is going to happen.

I guess Assad will be a Tetrarch like Herod Antipas was.

Syria has absolutely no incentive or reason to accede to this.

Unless the Russians force it on them.

Turkey is an invading army, there to kill Syria’s Kurds and support numerous jihadi head chopper organizations.

Syria has no incentive, but probably no choice either. Assad is paying the piper for continuing his father’s policies.

So the incompetent Kerry-Obama-Clinton-MCain team not only lost in Syria but now pushed the Turks into the Russian orbit for the 1st time in their history.

I didn’t see in the article what the different sections would be. But I assume there will be one for preserving the Alawite control, one for the resistance and one for the Kurds (which the Turks would not like).

I bet Turkey invades at least one of these in the next few years.

I wonder what will happen with Trump, Putin, the Mullahs of Iran, and other countries when they really get serious...

If Iran and Russia are together on this plan, and President Trump has other plans, like he said, build a wall around Syria and let the people back in to live in their own country, just wondering what is going to happen to ‘united’...

Splitting up middle-eastern countries in crazytown into pieces always works really well. In world history, they have always become zones of peace and quiet. Why, the Syrians (one of the pieces carved up,) will be on the moon soon! You’ll see. Credits to humanity

Politics, like Nature, abhors a vacuum. Note well which country is missing from that process. Not that the US would want a zone but Turkey and Iran having zones of influence??? TOTAL FAIL.

And pray tell, does Iran get the Golan Heights in their zone? Another betrayal of Israel by zero and his crew.

No surprise if we find out Obama’s “rebels” were the conduits to get resources to ISIS, while giving cover to Obama and his Muslim brotherhood cronies. McCain playing the role of “tool”.

Turkey’s Erdogan has no intentions of leaving the part of Syria and Iraq that they are now occupying.

Russia? looks like they are in the mix with Syria and Iran. Don’t see how Russia benefits from that, except an oil play and pipeline. But their apparent partners are totally untrustworthy.

Oh, I completely forgot SA. They are the big money players in this.

If this was any place other than the Middle East, someone would make a deal. But dealing with these insane characters is impossible.
