Assad is paying the price for being “Progressive” and introducing reforms. Assad the Elder was a butcher, but he kept the different sects and religions from each other’s throats.

Literally as soon as the boot was lifted from the necks of the radical islamists, the Soros NGO’s stirred them into revolt. The fact that the unrest began just after Assad turned down the Qatari-Saudi gas pipeline to Europe is purely coinkydink, right?

They pushed until the Army over-reacted, triggering the widespread civil war.
