Been that way for years.... It is all about funding. If you do not add the gratuitous pro-”something” verbiage in your proposals, then you will likely not gain the favor of the reviewer, thereby denied funding. This is especially true if the funding is federal.

Article has appeared in several places in the past week - I think Universe today and or space.com have posted it. The signals are not explained, but are believed to be from a newly formed or still forming pulsar, I think they said.

It is probably a safe bet that after 15 billion years and with billions of stars and planets that there is a good chance of life somewhere else besides Earth.
Given the source of these signals is 3 billion light years away it could be that the source has since ceased to send and/or the life that was sending it has become extinct.
Some life forms may have come into being several billion years ago and lived out their life cycle then went extinct. Some may have destroyed themselves, others may have never gained a foothold enough to advance.
Given the distances involved it will be millions of years before the signals generated on Earth reach any place capable of interpreting them. By then, hopefully the Trump whiners will have gone by the wayside.
So in essence we are alone in our segment of the Universe.
