He’s the One with all the answers, so you’re in the right venue.

Some people have a peculiar definition of “great”.

Plus when Mic passes on, Keith is going to have to update his meme.

Jesus talks to me. He says, “Nadie te ama como Yo.” Then get I get all in a fuddle and think He means something else.

I just need Him to clobber me upside the head. People like me, with all the words - Greek, Latin, English, Spanish - need to be clobbered!

"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons: "My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son." Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. "Make level paths for your feet," so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. "

Hebrews 12:2-12 NIV

Good point.

But seriously, just going with St. Paul, how does one harmonize, “We must discipline the body,” with “We must just indulge all the urges the body has.”?

There was a thread a few days ago purporting to be from an Eastern Orthodox perspective, which was indistinguishable from the Moslem viewpoint, “Men must ‘go,’ period.”

It may indeed have been that, but it wasn't from a scriptural perspective. Therefore (and I have only your thumbnail sketch of it), it was man's mistaken interpretation. As I'm sure you're well-aware, merely calling something "Christian" doesn't necessarily make it so.

This woman sounds very very disturbed. I am aghast that she was a teacher, alone with students in a classroom. The true victim, of course, is the little child. What a horrible mess.

If you’ve never been a tax accountant, you have no idea how relaxing it is! Just read the revenue code (for 50 states plus the District of Columbia) and fill out the forms. But wait! You can phone (for example) the Oklahoma Department of Revenue, and have three people tell you three different ways that you’re supposed to have filled out the forms ...

Does this sound like the Pharisees and Sadducees, where you can’t possibly get it right? Well, then, Christianity shouldn’t be like that, because Jesus said the yoke was easy and the burden was light, not that you should consider whether Athena had a better deal on offer.

(She doesn’t because she has no patience with failure. The study in the library, the arts and crafts, the occasional armed mayhem ... I was on the verge of going there, but Athena has no patience with failure. Jesus loves failure.)

I, as an unmarried bachelor, do not volunteer for anything that might have children present. I have been asked to host high school students in my shop (It’s a machine shop when I’m here) I don’t talk to little kids at the park or let them play with my dog when I’m walking him. And it’s sad. EVERYONE assumes the worst about a single man around kids. It’s not worth being in that position when your life can be destroyed so easily.

This woman groomed a boy and should have been arrested as a predatory pedophile and punished accordingly. IF, that were to happen, her and the child would still be alive and the boy, maybe, could have received some treatment. How many of the people who think it’s no big deal because it was a female predator need to ask themselves how they would feel if it were a gay man who preyed on the 15 year old boy???

Many people on FR seem to think that there are no circumstances under which a young male’s having sex are bad. Babies? Nothing. Damage to society? Nothing.

Welcome to the future.

Jesus said the yoke was easy and the burden was light

It is, indeed--He does the dying in our place, and then He sends His Word and Spirit to lead us into all truth. He never overwhelms us beyond our present ability to endure with His help, but He never promised we wouldn't suffer.

"...[A]nd we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." Romans 5

So, perhaps He is stretching you right now to grow into a greater faith and fuller understanding--sanctifying you.

By the way, I got my USC BS in Business with an Emphasis in Accounting. During the last class in my senior year, my Accounting prof chucked the text and instead read obituaries of accountants who had dropped dead from stress in their forties and fifties and asked, "Are you really sure you want to be an accountant?"

Yeah, I get that, but it doesn't stop me from yelling, "Gaah! Will you just tell me the rules already!"

Le sigh. I'd be toast with Athena, but Jesus has a sense of humor.

One of my co-workers died at the office. Howard Boydston - I dreamed about him in Purgatory.

"Gaah! Will you just tell me the rules already!"

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. That sums up all the law and the prophets.

I’m considering that, too. Tomorrow I have the Spanish choir practicing in the morning and the church library committee in the afternoon. They’re what seems like reality most of the time!

>> “Oh, fudge, everyone says that!” <<

Its not about saying it; its about living it.

If you have questions about details, Leviticus and Deuteronomy can answer them.

Usually love is the answer.
