Read the article to discover it is about a homosexual.
“Lose the darn ear protection when you shoot. Cripes.”
Great advice. Think I’ll start TIG welding without eye protection also.
God bless you. There are so many tales of what tunnel rats did and if you ever saw them you never would assume that little guy had the biggest balls in the room. Much respect from an Iraq vet.
Btw
Pavilch is rurnt.
-—worst advice of the day—covered well by previous posters—
Thanks...I was studying Civil Engineering at Ga Tech before I went to Vietnam. Naturally, I had to visit their “engineering projects”. And, I was a little guy, tired of being, as a field radio operator, a “smaller target”. LOL
As an aside, we got into two tunnel complexes that were over 3,000 feet long, with all the side branches. At least, that’s how much Det cord we strung in each, tying together the Composition B cratering charges to blow them.
We figured that the Vietnamese must have started digging them back in the ‘40’s when the Japanese invaded... Industrious little buggers!
That’s ridiculous. Simply ridiculous.
Been shooting for near 60 years and wished to hell I wore hearing protection back in those early days.
Believe me....under stress you won’t hear the shots till a few hours later when you realize your ears are ringing ‘for some reason’.
Filters. Ripped off cigarette filters back in the 60s for ear plugs.
Gunny R Lee Ermie uses empty .45 ACP brass for ear plugs. Used them on his tv shows.
I fired several .223 rounds w/o ear protection and my ears rang for days. Then I noticed a slow degeneration of my hearing.
What is strange is during quail season we shot a 12 guage and never heard the shot, we were concentrating on the quail.
“Worst advice I’ve seen today.”
Exactly.
Hearing and eye protection is one of the five rules of safe firearms handling.
It’s one of the first discarded when the SHTF, but not at the gun range.
I also don’t use earplugs when hunting (quail or deer), and seldom notice the report. I do use hearing protection for target shooting or any other noisy activity. I lost too much of my hearing in earlier years, from shooting, chainsaws, loud music, etc., and also enjoy a mild tinnitus.
I got a set of the amplified electronic hearing protectors. Wear them when hunting, and you do get the benefit of amplified, directional sounds to better hear the game. They shut off when gunfire is present, but come back on fast enough to hear the echo off trees.
For range use, I use these AND foam plugs and just turn the sound up a bit. You can hear normal conversation, but ears are protected from noise damage.
What are you nuts?
What are you nuts?
“Lose the darn ear protection when you shoot.”
Wrong! If you shoot a lot and want to have the ability to hear when you are 60 years old, you have to use ear protection.
LOL, if you ever need to shoot “for a real purpose,” you won’t even hear the gun shots.
Total Audio Reception Destruction
It’s a documented phenomenon, auditory exclusion.
I was waiting for some hunters to chime in. Things go slow mo. I can remember watching muzzle blasts and smoke and hearing nothing until bone cracked 200 yards away.
