Margaret Hassan, a British leftist, had been married to an Iraqi and living in Iraq for more than 30 years doing “good” work for CARE, before she was kidnapped in 2004 and murdered. She opposed the US action in Iraq, so she likely thought that stance and her history of helping Iraqis would protect her.
It didn’t in her case, and it won’t in this current case. This woman makes the mistake of projecting her values onto the people she is going to walk into the midst of, and assumes that they will know she is somehow “special” and will treat her with respect.
Someone should stop her.
