The Standing Rock Sioux tribe has claimed that the project has encroached on its land, damaged sacred sites and would potentially harm a major source of their drinking water by going under Lake Oahe.
[snip]
But what continued to throw a wall up in the discussions was the tribe's demand to receive a fee for shipping the oil.
"Even though the pipeline never crosses the Standing Rock Sioux reservation, [snip] "But time and again the tribe rebuffed or ignored the company's offers demanding, instead, a toll on the crude that passed through the pipeline, an ultimatum that showed the tribe's true desire easy money."

If these Sioux are the rightful owners of the land they surely have a right to reasonable compensation. It could be in the form of a sale price or regular lease payments. But given that oil is national security the pipeline must be built and neither the Sioux, nor Maoists at “Earth First” and the Sierra Club can be allowed to stop it.
To: Jeff Chandler
Well, the pipeline company can prep for the arrival of the liberating Trump administration and approval for them to complete their badly needed pipeline. And they can either ignore the blackmailing tribe or, better yet, tell them to take a flying leap.

It’s NOT on their land. Hell, maybe I’ll demand royalties — and I live in Maryland.

The Standing Rock Sioux (on the south central border of North Dakota) also screwed their cousins the Ft. Totten Sioux out of the University of North Dakota's mascot the Fighting Sioux.
The Ft. Totten group loved the mascot and put up no fuss. In fact, UND sportswear with the old mascot remains popular on the Ft. Totten Reservation. The Standing Rock group wanted to shake down UND for scholarships, studies programs and such as the price for not opposing the mascot to the NCAA.
So the real Sioux, close to UND, got screwed and lost their mascot because UND didn't want to play the shakedown game and lacked the guts to fight them on it.

Exactly. These leeches already won the war against the white man with free land, welfare and untaxable casinos.

I had read something like this long ago.
They want money even though the oil no longer even goes through their lands. And vowed to stop production if they didnt get paid.

So, then if it does not go thru their lands, then are they
just taking the pipeline hostage? Isn’t that illegal?

This pipeline does NOT cross their reservation. The pipeline runs through an existing easement. They should get nothing.

Even though the pipeline never crosses the Standing Rock Sioux reservation... Too bad the MSM doesn't point this out to the rest of the world. But, if they did, the tribe would look like the money-grubbing SOB's that they are.
