Mr. Tillerson emerged as a contender on the strong recommendations of James A. Baker III, the secretary of state under President George Bush, and Robert M. Gates, the former defense secretary, according to a person briefed on the process.

Mr. Kushner and Mr. Trump’s chief strategist, Stephen K. Bannon, advocated strongly for Mr. Tillerson, and the president-elect became intrigued.

That’s a very interesting video. Almost anyone not in the oil business, or a very close study, can learn from it. Particularly interesting was the discussion of resilience in the petro industry, and how Exxon-Mobil’s investments are NOT driven so much by current pricing.

At one point, Tillerson says E-M continues to add twice as much in their reserves, per year, as they extract. So much for the gloom and doom “peak oil” people...

Also telling, but not particularly “new data” is Tillerson’s discussion of how our gov’t impedes economic development in the US.

I think this guy can handle foreign ministers and heads of State. The big question is, will Tillerson be able to contend with the entrenched bureaucracy at our State Dept.?

BTW, the next vid that came up was Trump, in 2014 / pre-candidacy. That was interesting, too!

Yup. FReepers feel comfy cozy with empty suit lawyers and politicians though. In many ways however, Tillerson’s credentials are similar to Trump’s.

Why were his positions known if he was in the oil business? Was he an office holder at some point?

I know those big shots like to give their opinion about stuff but just wondering.

God knows tech CEOs do it.

I wonder if he is close with the leaders of these places.

Wouldn’t that go against the idea of 100 percent oil independence here?

I dont know. Just asking.

It’s not even in my top 3 :)

They have a lot of land and an aircraft carrier that barely floats.

JUST the war in Syria is pushing them to the brink financially.

I don’t know much about the man but we will find out. I have confidence. If he has done business with Russia, he already has insights into some of their weaker areas..and they may be more reluctant to make ‘excursions’ into neighboring areas at the risk of losing key business deals. Friends close and enemies closer comes to mind. And we will need to at least appear on decent terms with them when we deal with China. It’s a strategic move. And let those naysayong picks on the left side of Congress put up a fight...their consolation prize would be Bolton. I think the oNE two combo is a great pick. And yes, I do like Gates..

I will give Trump the benefit of the doubt on this one and see how it plays out. You on the other hand are just some anonymous person on the internet. You are free to run for president someday, win, then choose the Secretary of State you feel is more appropriate. Since you claim to know better than Trump, I urge you to run and win so that you can show us how it should be done.

Wow, Rex was an Eagle Scout. What were you?
..........................................

So only Eagle Scouts can speak out against men who advocate for the normalization of homosexuality?

The practical effect of what Tillerson did with the Boy Scouts is teenage homosexual boys sleeping in tents with much younger boys. Would you let your 7 year old son sleep in a tent with any 17 year old boy. How about if the 17 year old boy was a homosexual?

Is it any different from a heterosexual 17 year old boy sleeping alone in a tent with a 7 year old girl? Would you let your 7 year old daughter sleep in a tent with a 17 year
old heterosexual Eagle scout?

I can only conclude that Tillerson has some deep, dark secrets in his life that someone knows about that pushed him to affect this change in the Scouts. And now he will be affecting world wide change.

I’m sorry that we, as a society, cannot even debate the issue of homosexuality.

I’m a physician with a son who had sexual identity issues growing up. I could see it developing while young because he was a bit awkward with girls. I learned years later from my Ex that he had been abused by a neighbor when he was just 8, after our divorce.

There is no scientific evidence of a genetic predisposition for homosexuality. Twin studies and research have proven this. Yet, the gay community would let you believe that it’s inborn and a higher form of love making.

In reality, these people are tortured. They end up with drug and alcohol problems, severe depression and suicide. They rarely enter into lasting loving relationships with their partners, and of course there’s the incidence of STDs.

My son took his own life two years ago. The guilt in me will last a lifetime.

It would take a lot of courage for people like you or me, to stand up publicly and talk about the reality of this subject, in essence, to come forth and start debate. Ben Carson did, and he was immediately shouted down. Anyone less than him would be branded a kook.

No one will elected in this country if they come out, to say being gay is abnormal and reversible.

Then you have a guy like Rex Tillerson, an ex Eagle scout. I’m sure he weighed all sides, and it probably tore him up to take the stance he did. Maybe he had people like my son, in his family. Don’t know. I think he realized that he was up against a lobby that would do whatever they could legally to discredit and abolish scounting, if he disallowed gays in scouting.

Then there’s the current generation. They don’t care if you’re red, green or blue. They accept every thing. They are for the most part very prolife. They are passive to anything that goes against tolerance.

Rex Tillerson, will be a great SOS.
