The other thing I forgot, he talked about the Exxon Mobil integration, and the challenge of integrating cultures. He also talked about the critical importance of everyone in the organization working towards the general good of the organization. I am sure he is well skilled to define goals, communicate goals, and get people aimed towards them.
The problem is, he is used to such a high caliber of employee. In government, he won’t find that broadly across the organization. But certainly he could make an improvement. I don’t think those civil servants can just be let go for performance issues, not sure.

I’m guessing Trump wants a SOS familiar with and who has demonstrated success negotiating with Russia / Putin. He (Trump) already has a VERY good start on good people in place to take care of ISIS / terrorism, get immigration under control, refire the economy, blunt enviro-Nazis, become energy independent, and so on. But, he has no one “in place” to deal with Putin.
We should keep in mind that while we have areas of common interest with Putin, such as defeating ISIS, we ALSO have areas that are highly problematic. It is very dangerous to have Europe at Putin’s mercy, when it comes to energy, for example. The Iranian-Russian-Chinese “axis” is also of great concern.
I haven't taken myself out of the running, and there's no official statement saying otherwise. I'm still in.

Politicians like Romney , Ryan are corrupt owned bought and paid for liars. Name one good thing politicians have done for America in the last 30 years?
The 2nd half of that is CONGRESS fault. Too many in Congress are enamored with political power, instead of their country's wellbeing, and the wellbeing of constituents.
What Trump, and the Senate, need to do with any of these positions, is determine if the nominee will put America and Americans first. Then come other qualifications. Most CEO's of global corporations would not put America first. But, do you know for a fact that all, and in this case Mr. Tillerson, would not, when in fact that would be his new job?
State needs to be cleaned out and that is what business types can do.
If Trump vets this guy and finds him to be an America First kind of guy I would support him 100%. THIS is a Trump pick I would love!

Sure. If you can drive a car no reason you can’t fly an airplane. Right? I’m sure Tillerson knows all about bribing tin pot dictators on behalf of Exxon shareholders but reforming a government org like State is a totally different ball of wax.
But, he has no one “in place” to deal with Putin.
You mistake is assuming Putin wants a deal. He doesn’t. He’s just fine with the current situation in the Middle East. He’s just fine with the status quo in Europe. Sanctions are going away. Everybody knows the Euros have no stomach to keep them.
