Exxon’s Rex Tillerson Is Top Candidate for Secretary of State
Wall Street Journal ^

Exxon Mobil Corp. Chief Executive Rex Tillerson has emerged as the leading candidate to become President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for secretary of state, according to two transition officials, marking the latest twist in a multiweek search for a top diplomat.

Mr. Tillerson moved ahead of other candidates, including 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who have had multiple conversations with Mr. Trump about the job. Mr. Tillerson is viewed by some of Mr. Trump’s advisers as a mold-breaking pick who would bring an executive’s experience to the diplomatic role, said a person involved in the process.

Messrs. Trump and Tillerson met on Tuesday and are expected to speak again over the weekend, the person said. Mr. Trump has said he would like to make a formal announcement about his State Department pick about his pick next week.

Mr. Trump said in a statement on Friday that former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani had taken himself out of the running for the diplomatic job and other administration posts late last month.

Don’t know a thing about him but...that’s an interesting name. Almost Dickensian. “Rex Tillerson.”

An Exxon guy would be great just to see liberals go bat quano crazy.

I understand reconciling with all elements of the party, but Romney tried to work for the other party in this election. I could see Hillary making him her secretary of state.

He should tell Romney that if he works with the Administration and supports it strongly over the next 4 years, and then works hard in the reelection campaign in 4 years, he could be Secretary of State in 2020. Assuming Rex is done by then. If not, something will be available.

China’s quest for oil and gas resources will be one of biggest potential sources of friction in the world.

Russia is basically an oil and gas business with a country attached to it. Their gas resources give them enormous influence over western Europe and Germany in particular.

Perhaps Tillerson would mean having an adult in charge of the State Department instead of anti-American fools obsessed with Islamophilia.

bwahahahah, I hope it happens! That being said, how in the world would they know who is in the “top” position. They have not the slightest clue what’s in Trump’s head. Let’s go Rex!

Would be a terrible choice. Trump is going a bridge too far if he puts a career corporate guy in charge of State.

Yeah, so let’s put a oil guy in charge of foreign policy. Brilliant. No possible conflicts of interest there.

I’ve heard complaints that President Trump is choosing too many lobbyists, too many generals, too many billionaires, and too many businessmen. Who do these whiners want President Trump to choose, other than Team Hillary (too many losers and too many communists)?

I think they want Michael Moore and Lena Dunham.
