Exxon’s Rex Tillerson Is Top Candidate for Secretary of State
Wall Street Journal ^

Exxon Mobil Corp. Chief Executive Rex Tillerson has emerged as the leading candidate to become President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for secretary of state, according to two transition officials, marking the latest twist in a multiweek search for a top diplomat.

Mr. Tillerson moved ahead of other candidates, including 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who have had multiple conversations with Mr. Trump about the job. Mr. Tillerson is viewed by some of Mr. Trump’s advisers as a mold-breaking pick who would bring an executive’s experience to the diplomatic role, said a person involved in the process.

Messrs. Trump and Tillerson met on Tuesday and are expected to speak again over the weekend, the person said. Mr. Trump has said he would like to make a formal announcement about his State Department pick about his pick next week.

Mr. Trump said in a statement on Friday that former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani had taken himself out of the running for the diplomatic job and other administration posts late last month.

Anyone who has accomplished anything in the real world will likely present potential conflicts of interest when that person takes a high government position. Heck, Trump himself has interests in numerous countries around the world.

Unless we find someone who has never done anything meaningful in the real world, such as a dilettante law school instructor like Obama, then there will likely be some sort of potential conflict.

My concern with Tillerson is that one of the biggest tasks I would like to see the incoming Secretary of State accomplish is cleaning out the State Department and changing the culture, an enormously difficult task and I wonder whether an outsider can do that.

I think the man would do great as oru representative to the world

And....... he can bring along some helpers to go in and clean out the State Department. At this point, I can’t determine which is the most important part of the job

The effete snobs need to be given the door. Want to fight it, you are transferred TAD to Lower Slabovia immediately.

Exxon does business in 50 countries. From what I read, Rex has more heads of state on his speed dial and knows more about the countries than anyone else Trump has interviewed with. He’s literally done trillions of dollars worth of deals including a $500 Billion deal with Putin in Russia.

Nothing against Tillotson but we were told Ryan and Romney were also solid conservatives along with MCCain, Flake, etc.

I will support Trump’s picks until he gives me a reason no to do so.

A lifetime with Exxon. Started as an engineer. Worked overseas. ran overseas subsidiaries of Exxon, including Yemen and Russia. A solid choice for the job.

The rearrangement of oil-based diplomacy is a major factor in our foreign relations.
We’re a supplier now so we’ve no interest in Middle East oil producers- except as competitors.
China is taking that security role over anyway and can do it more profitably.

But what follows 60 years of foreign policy based on being the assurer of Mid East oil supplies?

An Exxon guy would be great just to see liberals go bat quano crazy.

For that reason, I'd rather see him named as Secretary of the Interior, or head of the EPA.

Toward the end he says that climate change — whether warmer or cooler — is a “serious risk.”

I agree, I would take a person in State who knows how to make stuff happen, than some losers like Kerry and Hillary. It's about what's good for America, not some feel good crap about apologizing for our past (and soon to be future) excellence. It's time to play hardball!

The fact that lefties would go crazy is a HUGE bonus. They won't know where to focus their craziness on. But just wait to see them truly go off the rails when Trump is POTUS for 8 years, and appoints 1-2 MORE USSC Justices to give us a 6-3, or even 7-2 court. Then the pièce de résistance is clean elections, and national voter ID, etc, when lefties won't be able to cheat. My life will be complete when I see them go clinically insane.

Finish the sentence

In 2010 Tillerson said that while the company acknowledged that humans were affecting the climate through greenhouse gas emissions to some degree, . . .

it was not yet clear “to what extent and therefore what can you do about it.”[11][12]
