Men still earn more than women with the same jobs [a whopping 2.4%]
CNBC ^ | 6 Dec 2016 | Jessica Dickler

An unpleasant truth: Women still earn less than men for doing the same job.

And while income inequality between men and women has shrunk (see chart below), it remains stubbornly persistent and is prompting more workers to look for other jobs.

Overall, a woman makes about 76 cents for every dollar a man does nationwide, according to a new study by salary-tracking website PayScale.

Even when comparing the sexes with the same job title at the same company and using similar education and experience, the gender pay gap persists: Men earned 2.4 percent more than women on average, down slightly from last year, PayScale said.

Gender pay inequity has negative consequences on employee retention rates across the board, the report said. Employees, regardless of gender, who believed their employer was not addressing inequity were more likely to be looking for a new job in the coming year.

Of course, the pay gap varies greatly by industry. The disparity was largest — nearly 30 percent — between men and women in finance and insurance, without controlling for job title, education and years of experience, among other factors.

On the other hand, the shift in favor of women's earning power has been pronounced in the so-called STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, according to a separate analysis by Federal Reserve economists.

Still, over the course of their lifetime in the workforce, men were 41 percent more likely to go into management roles and nearly twice as likely to have an executive position in the late stages of their careers, PayScale found.

Nearly 20 percent of all women and 36 percent of those with MBA degrees said their gender was a factor in missing a raise or promotion.

"Addressing pay equity and ensuring equal pay for equal work is important but what gets lost is the opportunity gap," said Lydia Frank, PayScale's vice president of content strategy.

"We can't say there's equitable pay when there isn't equitable representation at the highest paying jobs."

President Barack Obama signed two executive orders in 2014 to prevent workplace discrimination. However, that same year, the Paycheck Fairness Act, which provides more accountability for employers and greater protections for employees who raise gender-based wage discrimination issues, was blocked by Republican lawmakers. The fate of the act may fall, in part, to President-elect Donald Trump.

Notice the struggle to find a cloudy lining in the silver. For all we know, 2.4% is within the study's margin of error. Also notice the scary-Trump closer. If this isn't fake news, it's the next worst thing.

men work an average nationwide of 44 hours while women work 41.

So THAT explains the 2.4 exactly.

Since the employees productivity is not included in this study it is worthless.

This article unintentionally points out that the "women earn 76 cents for every dollar a man earns" propaganda is pure BS. If you compare apples to apples, the salaries are the same. I've been working for several decades now and I have never -- never -- seen the company change salaries depending on whether a woman or a man took a position. The job has a certain salary associated with it and then they go out and hire. Sometimes they hire a woman, sometimes they hire a man. But the salary doesn't change.

And generally women are afforded a little more liberty. We’re looking at a non problem from any practical basis. Lefties are a solution madly in search of a problem now.

Funny you should mention unpleasant truths and Obama in the same article…

Two men with the same work classification may get different wages/salaries simply because one has been with company 15 years and the other only 5 years - it is called longevity. Certainly longevity applies to female wages/salaries.

If the other variables are NOT controlled, doesn’t that make this experiment bogus?

In addition, if this ‘inequality’ were true, where are all the lawsuits? Where’s the media attention on specific instances?

I recall Ivanka saying to the crowd that “My father is going to fight for income equality, and I’m going to be right there fighting beside him!”. Same question for Ivanka Trump - if this is true why, in our hyper-PC corporate environment, is there no litigation? Why hasn’t the man-hating feminazi’a on the alphabet channels trotted out the victims on national television?

As Thomas Sowell once pointed out, if a CEO can get equal work from a woman at less pay why would the CEO ever hire a man?
