At least he understood why he couldn’t keep it.

I wonder if the ex-owner can now sue the auction house.

They did the honorable thing.
The part that has me scratching my head is that this fell under the auspices of DHS. I am not sure what part of the homeland they are securing, but it seems like overkill.

I am very pleased with the owners’ handling of the situation.
Good job, men.

Props for doing the right thing, and for not blindly trusting anyone who
says they're a government agent.
Perhaps Poland can send them a high quality print of the portrait as a thank-you for caring for it these past few years?

It was a mistake for the auction house to sell this. Even 10 years ago, there were countless lists of stolen art from WW2.

Gee...what a surprise. The aggrieved individual has a male “partner”.Well, pal,in case it escaped your notice more than a few of your fellow pervs died in the ovens during WWII.One would think that you might be even less sympathetic toward Nazi crimes than the typical Westerner.
To: EveningStar
I’d wager they knew exactly what it was when they purchased it, as did the “auction house” that sold it to them.
It’s called “laundering” and it’s the M.O. of hard-left elitists like this fag author and his sodomy pal.
These kind of people aren’t known for truth telling. This article is almost certainly a concocted alibi.

DHS cannot find untold thousands of illegals streaming across the southern border, but they can find a 400 year old painting.
Awesome.

He surrendered the painting - it was not ‘seized from his living room’. Drama queen!!!!!!

Gee, so proud of Craig and his partner David.
"During the hectic month that followed, I clutched to the words global citizenry as my mantra. The notion of behaving as a global citizen can sometimes seem abstract, but it was glaringly obvious that this situation was bigger than our immediate surroundings. More than that, we realized our beloved lady was, herself, a global citizen, called upon to serve a greater purpose than the beauty she lent to our Silver Lake home."

A couple of fags. Who cares if they lost a painting that had originally been pillaged anyway?

Too bad these filthy news sites won’t let you read an article if you have an ad blocker turned on. And I refuse to subscribe. I tried searching for another news account of the story, but the only ones available were linked to the LA Times story. Oh well.

Does the Warsaw Museum have title proving ownership (in a straight line) from the artist (c.1650’s), to c.1939?
Personally, I’d like to see that evidence. It’d be neat.

One other important part of this story that didn’t seem to be discussed is that this guy and his partner did not develop a conscience about the painting until the feds showed up on his doorstep. Probably slept like a baby before that,
